Fürstenzell Abbey
Fürstenzell Abbey (German: ''Kloster Fürstenzell'', Latin: ''Abbatia Cella Principis'') is a former Cistercian abbey in Fürstenzell, in Bavaria, in the diocese of Passau. It was a daughter monastery of the Aldersbach Abbey, Aldersbach monastery from the filiation of the Morimond Abbey, Morimond primary abbey - Ebrach monastery. History The monastery, first dedicated to St. Laurentius and later to St. Mary, was founded in 1274 by Magister Hartwig, canon of Passau and court chaplain to Henry XIII, Duke of Bavaria, Duke Henry XIII of Lower Bavaria, with his help. The name "Fürstenzell" (Cella principis) also refers to Henry XIII. The first Cistercians arrived here from Aldersbach Abbey in Advent 1274. In May 1275, the monk Walter was elected the first abbot. Aldersbach Abbey
Aldersbach Abbey (german: Kloster Aldersbach) is a former Cistercian monastery in the community of Aldersbach in the Passau (district), district of Passau in the valley of the Vils (Danube), Vils, Lower Bavaria, Germany. History It was founded in 1127 by Saint Otto of Bamberg, Otto, Bishop of Bamberg, as a community of Augustinians, Augustinian Canons, on a site near a church consecrated in 880 by Englmar, Bishop of Passau, in honour of Simon Peter, Saint Peter. In 1146 Egilbert, the successor of Otto, gave the foundation and a new church of Our Lady to the Cistercians, and after the departure of the canons, Abbot Sefried, with monks from Ebrach Abbey, took possession. Under Cistercian rule Aldersbach flourished for more than six centuries. It was famous for the rigour of its religious discipline and exerted a wide influence. Johann Baptist Straub (1 June 1704 (baptism) – 15 July 1784) was a German Rococo sculptor. Biography Straub was born in Wiesensteig, into a family of sculptors. His father Johann George Straub and his brothers Philipp Jakob, Joseph, and Johann Georg Straub were also sculptors, as was his nephew Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. J. B. Straub studied in Munich with the court sculptor Gabriel Luidl and then went to Vienna, where he worked from 1726 to 1734. In 1734 Straub returned to Munich. Bernard Of Clairvaux
Bernard of Clairvaux, O. Cist. ( la, Bernardus Claraevallensis; 109020 August 1153), venerated as Saint Bernard, was an abbot, mystic, co-founder of the Knights Templars, and a major leader in the reformation of the Benedictine Order through the nascent Cistercian Order. He was sent to found Clairvaux Abbey at an isolated clearing in a glen known as the ''Val d'Absinthe'', about southeast of Bar-sur-Aube. The Rott is a river in Bavaria, Germany, left tributary of the Inn. Its source is in the municipality Wurmsham in Lower Bavaria, between Landshut and Waldkraiburg. Choir (architecture)
A choir, also sometimes called quire, is the area of a church or cathedral that provides seating for the clergy and church choir. It is in the western part of the chancel, between the nave and the sanctuary, which houses the altar and Church tabernacle. In larger medieval churches it contained choir-stalls, seating aligned with the side of the church, so at right-angles to the seating for the congregation in the nave. A crossing, in ecclesiastical architecture, is the junction of the four arms of a cruciform (cross-shaped) church. In a typically oriented church (especially of Romanesque and Gothic styles), the crossing gives access to the nave on the west, the transept arms on the north and south, and the choir, as the first part of the chancel, on the east.
