Funtime Comics
Funtime Comics is a Christchurch, New Zealand based collective of comic artists and writers whose aim is to provide a forum for the promotion and discussion of the comic medium, promote New Zealand comics and encourage local writers and artists through the publishing of their own comics. Funtime publishes the Funtime Comics Anthology, and a variety of other comics, many of which are collaborative efforts, featuring stories and artwork from local and international comics artists. History Funtime Comics was formed in 1990 by a group of comic artists and enthusiasts from the University of Canterbury. Originally conceived by Jason Brice, President of the University of Canterbury's ComicSoc, the first anthology was published the following year under the editorship of Brice (also founder of Comics Bulletin), Bean McGregor, and Nigel Campbell, with the name Funtime coming from a competition for the title and cover banner won by Debra Boyask. Debra Boyask
Debra Jane Boyask (Chelmsford, England, 11 April 1966 – Bristol, England, 23 April 2013) was a comics artist and educational developer. Boyask was born and died in England, but lived for many years in New Zealand, after moving there with her family in 1974. Education Boyask completed a Bachelor of Education (hons) at the University of Canterbury in 1992 and worked as an educational evaluator in New Zealand and then an educational developer on her return to the UK. Darren Schroeder
Darren Phillip Schroeder (born 27 August 1967 in Christchurch, New Zealand) is a Small Press editor, critic, stand-up comedian, and comics creator. He is best known for founding the Register of New Zealand Comics', editing the Small press section of the ''Comics Bulletin'' website and as long-standing editor of the Funtime Comics anthology Funtime Comics Presents. He also creates his own popular semi-autobiographical mini comic Mopy' Biography Darren Schroeder is a pākehā from Christchurch, New Zealand who is now living in Devon, England. He learnt to read through exposure to Donald Duck comics, and later on the work of Keith Giffen on Justice League International inspired him to return to his comic reading habit. Alberta
Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. A comics anthology collects works in the medium of comics, typically from multiple series, and compiles them into an anthology or magazine. New Ground (comics)
''New Ground'' is a New Zealand comics anthology edited by Jeremy Bishop through DMC Comics. It features short comics from up-and-coming & established New Zealand artists and writers. It is one of two comic anthologies published in New Zealand (the other being Funtime Comics) and it aims to showcase the more "mainstream" side of New Zealand talent. Jared Lane
Jared Takrouna Lane is a New Zealand artist. He is best known for his comic art (including his serial Progress), but is also an illustrator, storyboard artist and as an exhibiting fine artist. Biography Lane was born on 16 October 1972. After leaving school in Central Otago, New Zealand he attended the School of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury where he studied painting and became actively involved in student media, including drawing regular cartoons for Canta and working for the student radio station 98RDU. It was while he was at university he met up with fellow New Zealand comic artists and enthusiasts (such as Darren Schroeder, Jason Brice and Ed Dewe) and became a founding member of Funtime Comics.
