New Ground (comics)
''New Ground'' is a New Zealand comics anthology edited by Jeremy Bishop through DMC Comics. It features short comics from up-and-coming & established New Zealand artists and writers. It is one of two comic anthologies published in New Zealand (the other being Funtime Comics) and it aims to showcase the more "mainstream" side of New Zealand talent. Editor Jeremy Bishop has encouraged new talent by publishing the collaborate work of secondary school art students. Contributors The anthology has collected short comics from established and emerging New Zealand comics artists and writers, with roughly a dozen creators featured in each issue. Funtime Comics
Funtime Comics is a Christchurch, New Zealand based collective of comic artists and writers whose aim is to provide a forum for the promotion and discussion of the comic medium, promote New Zealand comics and encourage local writers and artists through the publishing of their own comics. Funtime publishes the Funtime Comics Anthology, and a variety of other comics, many of which are collaborative efforts, featuring stories and artwork from local and international comics artists. History Funtime Comics was formed in 1990 by a group of comic artists and enthusiasts from the University of Canterbury. ''Newshub'' (stylised as ''Newshub.'') is a New Zealand news service that airs on the television channels Three and Eden, as well as on digital platforms. It formerly operated across radio stations run by MediaWorks Radio until December 2021. Roger Langridge
Roger Langridge (born 14 February 1967) is a New Zealand comics writer, artist and letterer, currently living in Britain. Biography Langridge originally came to public prominence most notably with the ''Judge Dredd Megazine'' series ''The Straitjacket Fits'' (written by David Bishop), a surreal, hallucinatory, convention-bending strip set in an insane asylum with a cast of characters who realised they were in a comic strip and burst from the edge of the frame. He had previously been a regular artist for the 1988 issues of the Auckland University Students' Association's magazine Craccum. His cartoon style proved perfect for the series and he continued to work for the ''Megazine'', in addition to a series of comedy books dedicated to his Buster Keaton-inspired character ''Fred the Clown'', which he wrote and drew as a webcomic before self-publishing the material as small press titles. Dylan Horrocks
Dylan Horrocks (born 1966 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a cartoonist best known for his graphic novel '' Hicksville'' and his scripts for the ''Batgirl'' comic book series. His works are published by the University of Auckland student magazine ''Craccum'', Australia's Fox Comics, the current affairs magazine ''New Zealand Listener'' from 1995 to 1997, the Canadian publishers Black Eye Comics and Drawn & Quarterly, and the American publishers Vertigo and Fantagraphics Books. Ant Sang
Ant Sang is a fifth generation Chinese New Zealander comic book artist and designer. He is perhaps best known for his work on the animated show ''Bro'Town''. Career While studying graphic design at the then Auckland Institute of Technology in the mid-1990s, Sang first began to publish his work in the short-lived New Zealand comic ''Mainstream'', and Auckland event guide ''The Fix''. He also published his own mini-comic book, ''Filth'', which ran to seven issues between 1994 and 1997. The central characters from ''Filth'' formed the basis of his next series, ''The Dharma Punks''. This comprised an eight-issue story line, first published in the early 2000s and later compiled into a trade paperback with printing crowd-funded via Kickstarter in 2014.
