Function (musician)
David Charles Sumner (born 1 December 1973), who records as Function, is an American techno DJ and Record producer, producer. Born in the Canarsie area of Brooklyn in New York City Sumner's early musical interests included Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaataa, Man Parrish, John Robie and Arthur Baker (musician), Arthur Baker, The Human League, New Order (band), New Order and Depeche Mode. and released his first record in 1996, producing work on the Synewave label and becoming the only non-Birmingham Dj to release work on the Downwards Records label. In 2004 Sumner joined Regis (musician), Regis's Sandwell District collective. The Human League
The Human League are an English synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in 1977. Initially an experimental electronic outfit, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1979 and later attained widespread commercial success with their third album ''Dare'' in 1981 after restructuring their lineup. The album contained four hit singles, including the UK/US number one hit " Don't You Want Me". The band received the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act in 1982. ''Mixmag'' is a British electronic dance and clubbing magazine published in London. Launched in 1983 as a print magazine, it has branched into dance events, including festivals and club nights. History The first issue of ''Mixmag'' was printed on 1 February 1983 as a 16-page black-and-white magazine published by Disco Mix Club, a DJ mailout service. Sandwell District was a record label and multinational collective of techno DJs and producers that operated between 2002 and 2011. Their sound has been highly influential across the following generation of techno musicians, and has informed a major shift in world techno. By the time the collective announced its "glorious death" in 2012, the American ''Billboard'' magazine wrote that "Sandwell District's influence on underground techno can hardly be overstated." Depeche Mode are an English electronic music band formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980. New Order (band)
New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Arthur Baker (born April 22, 1955) is an American record producer and DJ best known for his work with hip hop artists like Afrika Bambaataa and Planet Patrol, as well as British group New Order. He is also known for remixing the Jill Jones song "Mia Bocca" on the 12" single, taken from her self-titled debut album ''Jill Jones'' (1987), released on Prince's Paisley Park Records, as well as remixing the Pet Shop Boys song, " In The Night". His remix of the song was used as the main theme for the BBC TV programme The Clothes Show between 1986 and 1994.
