Fulke Southwell Greville-Nugent, 1st Baron Greville
Colonel Fulke Southwell Greville-Nugent, 1st Baron Greville (17 February 1821 – 25 January 1883), known as Fulke Greville until 1866, was an Irish Liberal politician. Early life Greville was the second son of Algernon Greville, Esq., of North Lodge in Hertford, and the former Caroline Graham. His mother was the second daughter of Sir Bellingham Graham, 6th Baronet. He was a member of a junior branch of the Greville family headed by the Earl of Warwick. Political career Greville sat as Member of Parliament for Longford County as a Liberal from 19 July 1852 until 1869, when he was raised to the Peerage of the United Kingdom as Baron Greville, of Clonyn in the County of Westmeath. He had adopted the surname of Nugent-Greville by Royal Patent in 1866. He subsequently served as Lord Lieutenant of Westmeath from 1871 to 1883. Baron Greville, of Clonyn, County Westmeath, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 15 December 1869 for the Liberal politician Fulke Greville-Nugent, Member of Parliament for Longford from 1852 to 1869. Born Fulke Southwell Greville he was the grandson of Fulke Greville, son of the Honourable Algernon Greville, second son of Fulke Greville, 5th Baron Brooke (from whom the Greville Earls of Warwick are also descended; see this title for earlier history of the Greville family). Lord Greville married Lady Rosa Emily Mary Anne Nugent (died 1883), only daughter George Nugent, 1st Marquess of Westmeath, and assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Nugent in 1866. James Cecil, 1st Marquess of Salisbury, (4 September 1748 – 13 June 1823), styled Viscount Cranborne until 1780 and known as The Earl of Salisbury between 1780 and 1789, was a British nobleman and politician. Background Salisbury was the son of James Cecil, 6th Earl of Salisbury, and Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Keat. Political career Salisbury was returned to Parliament for Great Bedwyn in 1774, a seat he held until 1780, and briefly represented Launceston and Plympton Erle in 1780. In the latter year, he succeeded his father in the earldom of Salisbury and entered the House of Lords. He served under Lord North as Treasurer of the Household between 1780 and 1782 and under William Pitt the Younger and then Henry Addington as Lord Chamberlain of the Household between 1783 and 1804. Emily Nugent, Marchioness of Westmeath (14 July 1789 – 21 January 1858), formerly Lady Emily Anne Bennet Elizabeth Cecil, was the first wife of George Nugent, 1st Marquess of Westmeath. Emily was one of the three daughters of James Cecil, 1st Marquess of Salisbury, and his wife, the former Lady Mary Amelia Hill (herself the daughter of Wills Hill, 1st Marquess of Downshire. Emily Cecil married the marquess, then Lord Delvin, on 29 May 1812, at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire. Lord Delvin was already known to have kept a mistress, the mother of his illegitimate children, and his family had recently been the subject of the scandal surrounding his parents' divorce on the grounds of his mother's adultery, but the couple were reported to be deeply in love. Earl of Warwick is one of the most prestigious titles in the peerages of the United Kingdom. The title has been created four times in English history, and the name refers to Warwick Castle and the town of Warwick. Overview The first creation came in 1088, and the title was held by the Beaumont and later by the Beauchamp families. The 14th earl was created Duke of Warwick in 1445, a title which became extinct on his early death the following year. Hertford
Hertford ( ) is the county town of Hertfordshire, England, and is also a civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district of the county. The parish had a population of 26,783 at the 2011 census. The town grew around a ford on the River Lea, near its confluences with the rivers Mimram, Beane, and Rib. The Lea is navigable from the Thames up to Hertford. Fortified settlements were established on each side of the ford at Hertford in 913AD. The county of Hertfordshire was established at a similar time, being named after and administered from Hertford.
