Fromage Criollo
''Fromage'' is an annual Canadian one-hour special produced by the MuchMusic cable channel. ''Fromage'' paid "tribute" to music videos considered the worst or cheesiest of the year by MuchMusic staff. History The special was created in 1988 by songwriter (and MuchMusic VJ) Christopher Ward. Christopher hosted the show for the first several years, playing the part of a French stereotype called Charles De Camembert. Later Natalie Richard joined as co-host. From 1997, the program was hosted by MuchMusic's acerbic puppet VJ Ed the Sock, created and voiced by Steven Joel Kerzner. The show traditionally aired during the Christmas season as a part of special annual programming dubbed the "Holiday Wrap", and features a countdown of the worst music videos of the year, with humorously cynical (and sometimes profane) commentary from Ed along the way. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is a song by English rock band the Darkness, released as the third single from their debut studio album, ''Permission to Land''. When released as a single in September 2003, it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted worldwide, becoming a top-10 hit in Ireland, New Zealand, and Sweden, as well as on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. Don Cherry (ice Hockey)
Donald Stewart Cherry (born February 5, 1934) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and television commentator. Cherry played one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins, and later coached the team for five seasons after concluding a successful playing career in the American Hockey League, leading the team to four division titles and two appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals. From 1986 to 2019, Cherry co-hosted '' Coach's Corner''—a segment aired during CBC's Saturday-night NHL broadcast ''Hockey Night in Canada'', with Ron MacLean. BKS (band)
BKS was a Canadian techno group created by radio DJ Chris Sheppard, with Hennie Bekker and Greg Kavanagh (BKS = Bekker, Kavanagh, Sheppard). They were best known for collaborating with hockey personality Don Cherry to create the song ''Rock Em Sock Em Techno''. History BKS worked with Don Cherry on the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". The resulting video was named by MuchMusic as the worst video of 1993, although the video sold in excess of 550,000 copies. BKS recorded three albums of contemporary techno. The band's other hits included "Take Control" and "The Square Dance Song" (a collaboration with Ashley MacIsaac). Ed the Sock is a sock puppet character, created and voiced by Steven Joel Kerzner, who first appeared on Canadian local cable television in 1987. He is best known for his hosting appearances in the 1990s on MuchMusic and his own late night talk show, ''Ed's Night Party''. He is a gray sock puppet with green hair, round eyes, a scowl, a cigar and a rough, gravelly voice. "Axel F" is the electronic instrumental theme from the 1984 film ''Beverly Hills Cop'' performed by Harold Faltermeyer. It was an international number one hit in 1985. Background The title comes from the main character's name in the film, Axel Foley (played by Eddie Murphy). It is composed in the key of F minor. Faltermeyer recorded the song using five instruments: a Roland Jupiter-8 provided the distinctive "supersaw" lead, a Moog modular synthesizer 15 provided the bass, a Roland JX-3P provided chord stab brasses, a Yamaha DX7 was used for the marimba sound, and a LinnDrum was used for drum programming. According to Faltermeyer, the initial reaction to his premiere presentation of the cues to the film's producers and director did not result in an immediate approval; it was not until director Martin Brest voiced his approval that the producers showed enthusiasm.
