František Knapík
František Knapík (born 17 October 1956 in Ľubotín) was the mayor of the Slovakia, Slovak city of Košice until December 2010, and a member of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH). He studied at a grammar school (gymnasium) in Sabinov and at the College of Forestry and Lumbering, Faculty of Forestry in Zvolen. He worked then in forestry companies from 1980 to 1996, when he became a mayor of Košice's borough of Košická Nová Ves, staying at that position until 2003, when he was appointed as a deputy of the mayor of Košice and since 2006, confirmed by municipal election, he is the incumbent mayor of Košice at least until 2010. Since 2006 he is also member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union in Brussels, where he prepared a report on the Western Balkans adopted in November 2008. Frant Knapik
Frant is a village and civil parish in the Wealden District, Wealden District of East Sussex, England, on the Kentish border about three miles (5 km) south of Royal Tunbridge Wells. When the iron industry was at its height, much of the village was owned by ironmasters. Smuggling occurred here in the 17th and 18th centuries, and one of the toll road, turnpike roads (now the A267) came through here at that time. Frant church is dedicated to St Alban and there is a church school. St Alban's Frant was a major surveying point for the Anglo-French Survey (1784–1790) calculating the precise distance and relationship between the Paris Observatory and the Royal Greenwich Observatory, undertaken by General William Roy. There are three public houses in the parish: the Abergavenny Arms on the A267 in Frant, the George Inn in the High Street and the Brecknock Arms at Bells Yew Green. Ľubotín
Ľubotín ( hu, Lubotény) is a village and municipality in Stará Ľubovňa District in the Prešov Region of northern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was mentioned for the first time in 1330. The oldest record comes from a priest Štefan de Lubentin from the year 1330. It is thought that Ľubotín belongs to the oldest Slovak villages, already existing in the 11th century. The coat-of-arms of the village (Madonna with baby Jesus) was firstly used in the first half of 14th century. The hundredth anniversary of the church's consecration was celebrated on 6 November 2007 at the presence of Alojz Tkáč, the archbishop of Košice. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Christian Democratic Movement
The Christian Democratic Movement ( sk, Kresťanskodemokratické hnutie, KDH) is a Christian-democratic political party in Slovakia that is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and an observer of the Centrist Democrat International. History The party was established in 1990. In the 1990s it was led by Ján Čarnogurský and then since 2000 by Pavol Hrušovský. Before the 2016 elections, it was led by Ján Figeľ. Following the defeat in the elections, Figeľ stepped down from the position and Pavol Zajac became temporary leader until the decisive party meeting on 19 March 2016. Figeľ endorsed Milan Majerský, mayor of Levoča, for the position. Sabinov
Sabinov ( la, Сibinium, hu, Kisszeben, german: Zeben, russian: Сабинов) is a small town located in the Prešov Region (north-eastern Slovakia), approximately 20 km from Prešov and 55 km from Košice. The population of Sabinov is 12,700. Etymology The name apparently comes from some shortened Slavic personal name, e.g. ''Soba'', ''Sobin'', ''Sobina'' (probably a short form of Soběslav). Zvolen
Zvolen (; hu, Zólyom; german: Altsohl) is a town in central Slovakia, situated on the confluence of Hron and Slatina rivers, close to Banská Bystrica. Košická Nová Ves
Košická Nová Ves ( hu, Kassaújfalu) is a borough (city ward) of Košice, Slovakia. Located in the Košice III district, it lies at an altitude of roughly above sea level. History The first written record of Košická Nová Ves is from 1297. In that year, St Ladislaus' Church was built there. St Ladislaus Church has kept the same patron saint to this day. Košická Nová Ves was originally a separate village municipality until 1968, when it was annexed to the city. Since 1990, it has been one of the 22 boroughs of Košice.
