Francisco Romero (mayor)
Francisco Romero (ca. 1790 – ca. 1870) was an interim Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1847 and again in 1866. Background Francisco Romero came to Puerto Rico from Venezuela around 1821 and settled in Ponce, where he was a landowner. In 1836, Romero had been one of a team of three assistants to Barrio Playa mayor, Sargent Rafael Muñoz, before becoming mayor of Ponce some 10 years later. First mayoral term (1847) Romero was mayor of Ponce starting on 1 July 1847, and ended his mayoral term around 31 August 1847 when Juan Lacot took over. Second mayoral term (1866) Romero was interim corregidor mayor of Ponce starting on 1 September 1866 and ending sometime around 31 October 1866Eduardo Neumann Gandía. Juan Lacot
Juan Lacot Feliú was Mayor of the city of Ponce from 1 September 1848 to 30 September 1849. Biography Lacot Feliú was born in Catalunya, Spain, ca. 1816. He was a businessman in Barrio Playa in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he also resided. Mayoral term During the pandemic of 1855 in Puerto Rico, Lacot lent one of his homes in Barrio Playa for the lodging of residents infected with the cholera bacterium. Juan Lacot was mayor of Ponce when the town received its charter as a ''villa'' by the Spanish Crown on 29 July 1848. Carlos Cabrera Y Martínez
Carlos Cabrera y Martínez () was interim Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 1 November 1866 to 19 December 1866. He was interim mayor, together with Francisco Romero (mayor), Francisco Romero, and both performed as interim corregidor (position), corregidors until Colonel Enrique O'Neil became the appointed corregidor on 20 December 1866 for the remainder of that year and into 1867. Background As a young man, Cabrera y Martínez liked to write poems. As an adult, he was a sugar cane hacendado farmer and was several times appointed a Diputado Provincial (Provincial Delegate) as well as other prominent positions in the Ponce society. Cabrera y Martinez had his house at the northeast corner of Calle Cristina and Calle Marina, across from Plaza Las Delicias. His house had belonged to José Ortiz de la Renta. Mayor
In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated.
