Foreign Relations Of Northern Cyprus
Northern Cyprus is recognised only by Turkey, a country which facilitates many of its contacts with the international community. After it was occupied by Turkey, Northern Cyprus' relations with the rest of the world were further complicated by a series of United Nations resolutions which declared its independence legally invalid. A 2004 UN Referendum on settling the Cyprus dispute was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots but rejected by the Greek Cypriots. After that, the European Union declared its intentions to assist in reducing the economic isolation of Northern Cyprus and began giving aid to the territory. However, due to pressure from Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, this aid coming from EU funds cannot be used on Greek Cypriot land and property nor on public bodies. As a result, these funds can be used only on 29 percent of people on the island of Cyprus (those under the ''de facto'' control of Northern Cyprus). Yahya Jammeh
Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh (born 25 May 1965) is a Gambian politician and former military officer who was the leader of The Gambia from 1994 to 2017, firstly as chairman of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) from 1994 to 1996 and then as President of the Gambia from 1996 to 2017. Jammeh was born in Kanilai, in The Gambia, and is a Muslim of the Jola ethnic group. He attended Gambia High School in Banjul from 1978 to 1983 and served in the Gambian National Gendarmerie from 1984 to 1989. He was then commissioned as an officer of the Gambian National Army, commanding the Military Police from 1992 to 1994. This is a list of diplomatic missions of Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is recognized only by Turkey, and consequently has only one embassy with ''de jure'' recognition, along with six consulate-generals. However this has not prevented the TRNC authorities from opening representative offices elsewhere. The Embassy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Turkey (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti'nin Ankara Büyükelçiliği) is the TRNC's only official embassy abroad as Turkey is the only nation thus far to recognize the TRNC as an independent state. TRNC has representative offices in other countries with semi-diplomatic status. This embassy was established in late 1983 shortly after Turkey signed a treaty with the TRNC recognizing the November 15 1983 Declaration of Independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Embassy of Turkey in North Nicosia is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is located in the Turkish sector of Nicosia which is known as North Nicosia. It is the only diplomatic mission located in Northern Cyprus since only Turkey recognizes them. Other countries have their embassies in the Greek sector of Nicosia and they recognize the Republic of Cyprus's presence in the island. United Nations Security Council Resolution 541
With United Nations Security Council resolution 541, adopted on 18 November 1983, after reaffirming Resolution 365 (1974) and Resolution 367 (1975), the Council considered Northern Cyprus' decision to declare independence legally invalid. It called upon both parties to cooperate with the Secretary-General, and urged other Member States not to recognize Northern Cyprus, while only recognizing the Republic of Cyprus as the sole authority on the island.
