The Foreign Languages Publishing House () was a Soviet state-run foreign-language publisher of Russian literature, novels, propaganda, and books about the USSR. Progress Publishers
Progress Publishers was a Moscow-based Soviet publisher founded in 1931. Publishing program Progress Publishers published books in a variety of languages: Russian, English, and many other European and Asian languages. They issued many scientific books, books on arts, political books (especially on Marxism–Leninism), classic books, children's literature, novels and short fiction, books in source languages for people studying foreign languages, guidebooks and photographic albums. Progress Publishers joined with International Publishers in New York and the Communist Party of Great Britain's publishing house, Lawrence and Wishart, in London to publish the 50-volume ''Collected Works'' of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, a project launched in 1975 and completed only in 2004. Revekka Menasievna Galperina (Russian: Ревекка Менасьевна Гальперина; August 25, 1894 – November 2, 1974) was a Soviet editor and translator of English and German literature, one of the most prolific translators in the Soviet Union. Biography Revekka Galperina was born in 1894 in Edineț, then part of the Russian Empire and now Moldova. Her parents were the Jewish writer and merchant (1871–1960) and Tema Naftulovna Kormanskaia (1872–1941). Galperina's maternal grandfather was a Bessarabian grain merchant and her paternal grandfather was an industrialist from Khmelnytskyi in what is today Ukraine. Galperina was educated at home by private tutors, and her family moved frequently throughout her youth. She eventually settled in Moscow, where she worked as an editor at the state-run Foreign Languages Publishing House. The Foreign Languages Publishing House (FLPH) is the central North Korean publishing bureau of foreign-language documents, located in the Potonggang-guyok of Pyongyang, North Korea. It employs a small group of foreigners to revise translations of North Korean texts so as to make those texts suitable for foreign-language publication. Foreign Languages Press is a publishing house located in China. Based in Beijing, it was founded in 1952 and currently forms part of the China International Publishing Group, which is owned and controlled by the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party. The press publishes books on a wide range of topics in eighteen languages spoken primarily outside China. Much of its output is aimed at the international community – its 1960s editions of works by Marx and Lenin are still widely circulated – but it also publishes some material aimed at foreign language students within China. Mir Publishers (russian: Издательство "Мир") was a major publishing house in the Soviet Union which continues to exist in modern Russian Federation. It was established in 1946 by a decree of the USSR Council of Ministers and has headquartered in Moscow, Russia since then. It was completely state funded, which was the reason for the low prices of the books it published. Its scope was domestic and translated special and tutorial literature in various domains of science and engineering: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture, transport, energy, etc. Many Soviet scientists and engineers were its contributors. The staff provided translation from original Russian. In addition, during the Soviet times it was known for translated foreign scientific and popular science books as well as science fiction.
