Football Federation Samoa is a member of the Oceania Football Confederation and is the national governing body for association football in Samoa. It was founded in 1968 and became a FIFA member in 1986. The Samoa national football team is a regular entrant into OFC competitions, including FIFA World Cup qualifying. Championships Samoa National League Football Federation Samoa hosts one league, the Samoa National League. The current champion of the league is Lupe o le Soaga, as of the 2017 season. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the List of men's national association football teams#OFC (Oceania), member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The OFC has little influence in the wider football world, either in terms of international competition or as a source of players for high-profile club competitions. David Brand was an English football manager who was in charge of the Samoa national football team and American Samoa national football team. Brand was born in Manchester, England. He played as a striker for Northern Nomads as a youth player followed by Leeds/Carnegie College before joining Stockport County. He scored 2 goals on his debut at Spotland against Rochdale in a Lancashire League game. He later played for Stalybridge Celtic, Ashton United, and Wigan Athletic. In 1976 he moved to Australia to play for Gosnells City and West Australia. In 1978/9 he played for Hong Kong club Urban Services. The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the ' ( FIFA), the sport's global governing body.
