Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Foi magia" written by Paulo Neves. The song was performed by Sofia Vitória. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final '' Festival da Canção 2004'' in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2004 contest in Istanbul, Turkey. The competition consisted of two shows on 18 and 25 January 2004 where "Foi magia" performed by Sofia Vitória emerged as the winner after gaining 38.32% of the public televote. Portugal competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 12 May 2004. Performing during the show in position 7, "Foi magia" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Sofia Vitória
Sofia Vitória Inácio (born 28 April 1979 in Setúbal, Portugal) is a Portuguese singer. Prior to recording her debut album "Palavra de Mulher", she performed in Portugal's main concert halls, as well as in Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Macao, Wales and Turkey. Sofia is strongly influenced not only by Jazz but also by World Music. She released her first record in partnership with pianist Luís Figueiredo. RTP1 (''RTP um'') is a Portuguese free-to-air television channel owned and operated by state-owned public broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). It is the company's flagship television channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream and generalist programming, including '' Telejornal'' news bulletins, prime time drama, cinema and entertainment, and major breaking news, sports and special events. It was launched on 7 March 1957 as the first regular television service in Portugal. It was the only one until 25 December 1968, when RTP launched a second channel. António Calvário da Paz (born 17 October 1938) is a Portuguese singer and artist from the late 1950s and 1960s. Life and career Born in Lourenço Marques, Portuguese Mozambique, in Africa, still as a child, he settled with his family in Portugal's southern region of Algarve, in Europe, where he was raised. At 18 years old he moved from Portimão to Lisbon in order to continue his formal education and pursue a career as a singer. Simone de Macedo e Oliveira, GCIH • GMC (born 11 February 1938) better known as Simone de Oliveira is a Portuguese singer and actress. Pedro Machado Abrunhosa (born 20 December 1960) is a Portuguese singer, songwriter, musician and composer. Portugal was represented for the second time by Carlos Mendes, with the song "A festa da vida", at the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 25 March in Edinburgh.
