Portugal took part at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 in Millstreet, Ireland, represented by Anabela with the song "A cidade (até ser dia)". Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Deixa-me sonhar (só mais uma vez)" written by Paulo Martins. The song was performed by Rita Guerra, who was internally selected by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) on 9 January 2003 to represent the nation at the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia. RTP returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2002 as one of the bottom six countries in the 2001 contest. The national final ''Canção para Eurovisão 2003'' was organised on 2 March 2003 in order to select the song that Rita Guerra would perform, and the winning song was selected exclusively by public televoting. Fernando Abrantes
Fernando Fromm-Abrantes (born 1960) is a German-Portuguese producer and musician. Background He is a former member/keyboardist of the electronic/experimental pop band Kraftwerk. He went to the German school in Lisbon. After finishing school he moved to Germany and studied music and electronics in Düsseldorf together with Kraftwerk members Fritz Hilpert and Henning Schmitz. Afterwards he returned to Portugal. He lives in Lisbon, where he owns a music production studio. He is fluent in German, Portuguese and English. Armando António Capelo Diniz da Gama (1 April 1954 – 17 January 2022) was a Portuguese singer-songwriter and baritone opera singer, whose physical trademark for decades was his shoulder-length jet black hair. Rita Maria de Azevedo Mafra Guerra, commonly known as Rita Guerra (born 22 October 1967) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter. She represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 where she sang " Deixa-me sonhar" and finished 22nd. In 2020 she won the Portuguese version of Masked Singer as the crow.
