Flying Rhythms
Flying Rhythms are a drum and bass musical group. Founded in Tokyo in 2002, the band's current lineup consists of Naoyuki Uchida and Latyr Sy and Yoshio Kuge. They have released five studio albums. The drummer KUGE and percussionist LATYR play minimalistic, primal beats on the stage while the sound engineer UCHIDA remixes the beats. Their unique and original style has caught the attention of DJs like David Mancusso, Nick the Record of Lifeforce Records, and Adrian Sherwood of On-U Sound Records On-U Sound Records is an English record label known for releasing its own unique flavour of dub music since the 1980s. Drum and bass (also written as drum & bass or drum'n'bass and commonly abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 165–185 beats per minute) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. The genre grew out of the UK's rave scene in the 1990s. The popularity of drum and bass at its commercial peak ran parallel to several other UK dance styles. A major influence was the original Jamaican dub and reggae sound that influenced jungle's bass-heavy sound. Another feature of the style is the complex syncopation of the drum tracks' breakbeat. Latyr Sy is a Senegalese singer and percussionist based in Tokyo. Biography Born on September 12, 1972, on t he island of Goree, a world heritage site off the coast of Dakar in Senegal, West Africa, Latyr Sy began playing African drums, djembe, at a young age. Adrian Maxwell Sherwood (born 20 January 1958, London, England) is an English record producer specialising in the genre of dub music. He has created a distinctive production style based on the application of dub effects and dub mixing techniques to other forms of electronic dance music and popular music outside of the genre. He has worked extensively with a variety of reggae artists as well as the musicians Keith LeBlanc, Doug Wimbish and Skip McDonald. Sherwood has remixed tracks by Coldcut, Depeche Mode, The Woodentops, Primal Scream, Pop Will Eat Itself, Sinéad O'Connor, and Skinny Puppy.
