Fleet Logistics Support Wing
The Fleet Logistics Support Wing (abbreviated as FLSW, also referred to as Commander, Fleet Logistics Support Wing, CFLSW) is a reserve aircraft wing of the United States Navy, stationed at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas. The wing contains 100 percent of the Navy's intra-theater airlift capability, having no active-duty counterpart. The wing is subordinate to the Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve at Naval Air Station North Island, California. History The wing was commissioned at Naval Support Activity New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974 as the Reserve Tactical Support Wing, before being redesignated to its present name in 1983. Three years later, in 1986, the wing moved headquarters to Naval Air Station Dallas, Texas before undertaking its most recent relocation to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas in 1997. The Boeing C-40 Clipper is a military version of the Boeing 737 Next Generation used to transport cargo and passengers. It is used by the United States Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. The Navy C-40A variant is named "Clipper", whereas the USAF C-40B/C variants are officially unnamed. Design and development The C-40 combines the Boeing 737-700 fuselage with the strengthened wings and landing gear of the larger and heavier 737-800. It also has auxiliary fuel tanks allowing an unrefueled range of up to compared with for the standard 737-700. C-40A First flight took place in April 2000 and the first of the C-40A aircraft entered service in April 2001.
