Fisher Heights
Fisher Heights is a neighbourhood located in the far northeast corner of the former City of Nepean in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located in Knoxdale-Merivale Ward. The area is located south of the Experimental Farm and approximately 8 km away from downtown Ottawa. According to the Community Association, the boundaries of the neighbourhood are Baseline Road on the north, Fisher Avenue on the east, Meadowlands Drive on the south and Merivale Road on the west. This area also covers the neighbourhood of Skyline, Orchard Park and Parkwood Hills North. The population for this area was 6,408 according to the 2016 Canada Census. History Prior to the area being developed as a subdivision, the corner of Merivale (originally the Merivale Stone Road) and Baseline (Base Line) marked the site of the village of City View. Baseline Road (Ottawa)
Baseline Road ( Ottawa Road #16) is a road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Baseline runs from Richmond Road (almost directly over Highway 416) east in a straight line until it ends at the Heron Road Bridge over the Rideau River and Rideau Canal when it becomes Heron Road. Before the 2001 City of Ottawa amalgamation, Baseline formed the border of the city of Ottawa and Nepean. The street is named for its location as the baseline for Nepean Township. When Nepean Township was surveyed, Baseline formed the northern boundary of Nepean's six north–south concessions. Currently, Baseline is a major east–west street, and in the late 1990s it became so busy that Hunt Club Road had to be extended west of the Rideau River to alleviate pressure. Carleton Heights
Carleton Heights (French: ''Hauteurs Carleton'') is a neighbourhood in River Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. According to the Carleton Heights and Area Community Association, the neighbourhood is bounded on the north by the Central Experimental Farm, on the east by the Rideau River, on the south by the junction of Prince of Wales Drive and Fisher Avenue and on the west by Fisher Avenue. The neighbourhood is sometimes referred to as Hog's Back after the nearby falls. The total population of the neighbourhood is 7,586 according to the Canada 2016 Census. Homes were developed after World War II in the main Carleton Heights neighbourhood (then part of Nepean Township), located south of Meadowlands Drive. Most of these homes were not built until c. 1950. The neighbourhood was originally built for War Veterans, thanks to the Veterans' Land Act. Courtland Park
Courtland Park is a sub-neighbourhood of Carleton Heights in River Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the north by Baseline Road, on the east by the Rideau River, on the south by Dynes Road and on the west by Fisher Avenue. Prince of Wales Drive runs thorough the neighbourhood. According to the Canada 2011 Census, the population of the neighbourhood was 2,807 (including apartments east of Prince of Wales and north of Hog's Back)Population calculated by combining Dissemination Areas 35060533, 35061252 and 35061067 and removing Census Block 3506106740. The development took place after World War II to the 1960s. Most of the homes were considered as 'vet houses". Some townhouses were built in the 1970s and early 1980s. Central Experimental Farm
The Central Experimental Farm (CEF), commonly known as the Experimental Farm, is an agricultural facility, working farm, and research centre of the Science and Technology Branch, formerly the Research Branch, of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. As the name indicates, this farm is centrally located in and now surrounded by the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The farm is a National Historic Site of Canada and most buildings are protected and preserved as heritage buildings. The CEF original intent was to perform scientific research for improvement in agricultural methods and crops. While such research is still being conducted, the park-like atmosphere of the CEF has become an important place of recreation and education for the residents of Ottawa. A police village was a form of municipal government that was used in the province of Ontario, Canada in the early 19th century if the finances or the population of an area did not permit the creation of a village. City View (also known as St. Claire Gardens) is a neighbourhood in College Ward in the west end of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located within the former city of Nepean. Most of the homes in it were built from the 1930s to the 1960s. By the 2000s some of the home were demolished and built into new ones; and they still are today. The area existed as a police village from 1954 to 1974. 2016 Canada Census
The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. With a response rate of 98.4%, this census is said to be the best one ever recorded since the 1666 census of New France. This census was succeeded by Canada's 2021 census. Parkwood Hills
Parkwood Hills is a neighbourhood in Knoxdale-Merivale Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Canada. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, it was located in the City of Nepean. It is notable for the thriller ''Parkwood Hills'' (2002) which was filmed on location in the area by Kolin Casagrande, and for being a typical and illustrative example of town planning and development by Minto in the context of its position as the property manager for the National Capital Commission. Skyline is a neighbourhood in Knoxdale-Merivale Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, the neighbourhood was located in the City of Nepean. It is bounded on the south by Meadowlands Drive of Parkwood Hills, on the west by Clyde Avenue and Merivale Road, on the north by Baseline Road and on the east by the neighbourhood of Fisher Heights. Most of the houses were built from the early 1950s to 1970s. The community has Minto property featuring a 12-storey high rise with town houses on Eleanor Drive which is owned by Minto Developments Inc. In the early 2000s some garden homes were built off Eleanor Drive. In 2008, Encore Private was built just off Farlane Drive and Baseline Road. Merivale Road
Merivale Road is an arterial road in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It starts at Island Park Drive just north of Highway 417 and continues south until it ends at Prince of Wales Drive in Rideau Glen. South of Clyde Avenue, Merivale is known as Ottawa Road #17, while north of Clyde it is Ottawa Road #63. From Island Park Drive to Carling Avenue the road is as a small collector route, passing the Westgate Shopping Centre. South of Carling Avenue it is a minor arterial road that goes through the Carlington residential neighborhood.
