__NOTOC__ A fire station (also called a fire house, fire hall, firemen's hall, or engine house) is a structure or other area for storing firefighting apparatuses such as fire engines and related vehicles, personal protective equipment, fire hoses and other specialized equipment. Fire stations frequently contain working and living space for the firefighters and support staff. In large US cities, fire stations are often named for the primary fire companies and apparatus housed there, such as "Ladder 49". Other fire stations are named based on the district, neighborhood, town or village where they are located, or given a number. Facilities A fire station will at a minimum have a garage for housing at least one fire engine. Northmoor Engine House
The Northmoor Engine House, or Station 19, is a Columbus Division of Fire station in the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. It was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 2003. It was named for Jerry Kuhn in 2002; Kuhn was a lieutenant for Station 19 and died in the line of duty in 1972. The Northmoor Engine House was built in the Colonial Revival style, and was designed to blend into the surrounding neighborhood. It was completed in 1931, though the Great Depression made it the only station built in the city in that period. The city's lack of funds for new equipment and staff only prompted the station's use over a year after completion, and only through an equipment and personnel transfer. The station operated through into the 2000s, when it became too antiquated for modern firefighting equipment. The Columbus Historical Society (CHS) is the historical society for Columbus, Ohio, chronicling the city's history. The society office and museum building is located in the Franklinton neighborhood. In 2020, the Columbus Historical Society aims to raise funds to purchase Engine House No. 6 for its first permanent home.
