Northmoor, Dulverton
Northmoor is an historic estate in the parish of Dulverton in Somerset, England. The Victorian mansion house known as Northmoor House is set amongst steep wooded valleys on the southern edge of Exmoor. History Locke Northmoor House was built in 1856/9 by John Arthur Locke, a partner in the lead manufacturing firm of Locke and Blackett of Newcastle upon Tyne. The site was reputedly chosen by his wife. He purchased surrounding lands eventually forming an estate of 2,000 acres. John Arthur Locke (d.1888) of Northmoor married Adèle Caroline Drewe (d.1895), who in 1891 inherited from her brother Major-General Francis Edward Drewe (1830-1891) the historic estate of The Grange, Broadhembury in Devon, the seat of the Drewe family since the 16th century. His eldest son and heir was Arthur Charles Edward Locke, of Northmoor, who sold Grange which thus in 1903 passed from the ownership of the Drewe family and its descendants. Northmoor, Oxfordshire
Northmoor is a village and civil parish in West Oxfordshire, about west of Oxford and almost the same distance southeast of Witney. Northmoor is in the valley of the River Thames, which bounds the parish to the east and south, and is close to the River Windrush which forms part of the parish's western boundary. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 377. Toponym In the 11th century the toponym was simply ''More'' or ''Moor'', meaning "marsh". The prefix North was added by the 13th century, distinguishing the village from Southmoor, then in Berkshire, on the other side of the Thames. Parish church In 1059 King Edward the Confessor granted land at Northmoor to St Denis Abbey in Paris. Northmoor is a city in Platte County, Missouri and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the United States. The population was 325 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Northmoor was established in 1927, and remained in operation until 1947. The community's name is an amalgamation of Moore, the name of a first settler, and "north", a directional name relative to the community's location from Kansas City. On May 4, 2003 an F4 tornado ripped through the town, destroying several homes and causing extensive damage to the police station and to City Hall. The Illinois Open Championship is a golf tournament that is administered by the Illinois PGA (Professional Golfers' Association). The state championship of golf is a 54-hole championship over three days to determine the finest player in the state of Illinois. The tournament is open to professionals and amateurs with a handicap of 10 or less who reside within the state of Illinois. In 2015, for the first time in the history of the Illinois Open, the Illinois PGA changed the format of the event having it contested at two facilities for the first and second rounds. Northmoor Green
Northmoor Green is a village in south central Somerset, England, that is more commonly known as Moorland, and sometimes mistakenly called Fordgate even though it is a separate hamlet. These places being hamlets of Moorland in the civil parish of North Petherton. It is the only village in the United Kingdom with two official names on an OS Map (Northmoor Green or Moorland) Set in the heart of the Somerset levels it has the River Parrett running next to it. It has fewer local amenities than it used to; the village shop, school and post office have closed leaving only a church, village hall and an out of village pub, ''The Thatchers Arms''. The church of St Peter and St John was built in the 1840s. The Village Hall was built to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
