Finland Women's National Cricket Team
The Finland women's national cricket team represents the country of Finland in women's cricket matches. In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between Finland and any ICC members since 1 January 2019 have the full WT20I status. History Sometime in 2012, Finland's women's team visited Estonia for a cricket trip against Estonian women. The venue for this cricket trip was Tallinn, Estonia. It was the first-ever international cricket tour for Finland women. In 2023, the Finland women's team hosted 2023 Nordic Women T20 Cup. The tournament also featured teams from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Estonia. Finland came second in the tournament, although, their matches were not counted as T20 international matches. Cricket Finland ( fi, Suomen krikettiliito) is the official governing body of the sport of cricket in Finland. Its current headquarters and National Cricket Ground are located in Kerava, Finland. Cricket Finland is Finland's representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is an associate member and has been a member of that body since 2000. It belongs to the ICC Europe region. In July 2020, Cricket Finland won the Digital Engagement of the Year award, in the ICC's Annual Development Awards to recognise developing cricketing nations. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was founded at Lord's on 15 June 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, with Australia, England, and South Africa as its founding members. In the beginning, only countries within the Commonwealth could join. India, New Zealand and the West Indies joined in 1926, and Pakistan joined in 1953. In 1961, South Africa resigned from the Conference due to their leaving the Commonwealth, but they continued to play Test cricket until their international exile in 1970. The European Cricket Council (ECC) is an international body which oversaw cricket in European countries other than the Test-playing cricketing nation of England, the only European Full Member of the ICC for the duration of the ECC's existence. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) is the shortest form of women's international cricket. A women's Twenty20 International is a 20 overs-per-side cricket match between two of the International Cricket Council (ICC) members. The first Twenty20 International match was held in August 2004 between England and New Zealand, six months before the first Twenty20 International match was played between two men's teams. The ICC Women's World Twenty20, the highest-level event in the format, was first held in 2009. In April 2018, the ICC granted full Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between two international sides after 1 July 2018 will be a full WT20I. Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. Together with first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. The 2023 Associate international cricket season included series starting from April to September 2023. All official twenty-over matches between Associate members of the ICC were eligible to have full men's Twenty International or women's Twenty20 International (T20I) status, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted T20I status to matches between all of its members from 1 July 2018 (women's teams) and 1 January 2019 (men's teams).
