Finland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2006
Finland participated in and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" written by Mr Lordi. The song was performed by the band Lordi. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final ''Euroviisut 2006'' in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece. 12 artists with two songs each were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four semi-finals and a final, taking place in February and March 2006. Twelve entries ultimately competed in the final on 10 March where votes from the public selected "Hard Rock Hallelujah" performed by Lordi as the winner. Finland competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 18 May 2006. Performing during the show in position 16, "Hard Rock Hallelujah" was announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 20 May. Lordi
Lordi () is a Finnish hard rock/ heavy metal band, formed in 1992 by the band's lead singer, songwriter and costume maker, Mr Lordi (Tomi Petteri Putaansuu). In addition to their melodic metal music, Lordi are also known for wearing monster masks and using horror elements with pyrotechnics during concerts and music videos. The band rose to fame in 2002 with their hit single "Would You Love a Monsterman?", and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with their song " Hard Rock Hallelujah". Finland In The Eurovision Song Contest 1979
Finland was represented by Katri Helena, with the song "Katson sineen taivaan", at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 31 March in Jerusalem. "Katson sineen taivaan" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final organised by broadcaster Yle and held on 10 February. This was the first of Katri Helena's two Eurovision appearances for Finland, after she had finished runner-up in three previous national finals (1969, 1972 and 1978). Katri Helena
Katri Helena Kalaoja (née Koistinen, born 17 August 1945) is a Finnish singer. Career Katri Helena released her first songs in 1963 and has since sold over 630,000 certified records, which makes her the second-best-selling female soloist in Finland behind Madonna and places her also among the top 20 best-selling music artists in the Finnish market. She has represented Finland twice in the Eurovision Song Contest: in 1979 with her song " Katson sineen taivaan" and in 1993 with " Tule luo". Jaana Pelkonen
Jaana Pelkonen (born 27 January 1977) is a Finnish member of parliament and television presenter. Career Pelkonen's media career started as a radio presenter for ''Radio 99'' in Lahti in 1995–1997. Geir Rönning
Geir Rönning (born 5 November 1962) is a Norwegian-Finnish professional singer-songwriter from Ålesund. He later moved to the capital Oslo in the 1980s, and later on to Stockholm, Sweden, where he found opportunity to start a musical career. He later moved to Finland, which he represented in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. He returned to Norway in 2006 to try unsuccessfully to represent Norway in Eurovision through a joint song with Jorun Erdal. Nina Tapio
Nina Tapio (born February 24, 1972) is a Finnish singer, songwriter, musical actor, and session musician. Her singing career started at the age of five, when she sang on a children's record. Tapio studied at Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory where she got a degree as a teacher of singing. In 1994 she started the band Taikapeili together with Hanna-Riikka Siitonen, publishing three albums until 1999. In 1998 and 2003 she also recorded two albums with Adiemus. Kilpi is a Finnish heavy metal band, singing in Finnish. History "Kilpi" means ''shield'' in Finnish. It is the guitarist and band creator's last name, Petteri Kilpi.
