Katri Helena
Katri Helena Kalaoja (née Koistinen, born 17 August 1945) is a Finnish singer. Career Katri Helena released her first songs in 1963 and has since sold over 630,000 certified records, which makes her the second-best-selling female soloist in Finland behind Madonna and places her also among the top 20 best-selling music artists in the Finnish market. She has represented Finland twice in the Eurovision Song Contest: in 1979 with her song " Katson sineen taivaan" and in 1993 with " Tule luo". She also took part in the International Sopot Festival in 1969, singing "Valssi" during the Polish day. Personal life Katri Helena has been married three times. She had two daughters and a son with her husband Timo Kalaoja, who died of a heart attack in 1988. His death affected her so much that she withdrew from public view and stopped performing and recording for four years. Her only son, Juha Kalaoja, died at age 33 on 29 April 2009. Tohmajärvi () is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Neighbouring municipalities are Joensuu, Kitee and Rääkkylä. The municipality of Värtsilä was consolidated with Tohmajärvi in 2005. Sortavala, a town in the Karelia, Russia, is located south of Tohmajärvi. Tohmajärvi is located along the Blue Highway, which is an international tourist route from Mo i Rana, Norway to Pudozh, Russia via Sweden. The border crossing to Russia, Niirala, is in Värtsilä, now part of Tohmajärvi. One of the most significant highways in Tohmajärvi is Highway 9, which runs west through Joensuu, Kuopio, Jyväskylä and Tampere to Turku. The Blue Highway follows this highway to Tohmajärvi. Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 with the song "Bye Bye Baby" written by Kari Salli and Markku Lentonen. The song was performed by the duo CatCat. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final ''Euroviisut 1994'' in order to select the Finnish entry for the 1994 contest in Dublin, Ireland. Ten entries were selected to compete in the national final on 5 March 1994 where votes from the public selected "Bye Bye Baby" performed by CatCat as the winner with 25,834 votes. Finland competed in the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 30 April 1994. Finland entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1992 with "Yamma, yamma", sung by Pave Maijanen after they won the Finnish national final. Before Eurovision National final The Finnish broadcaster, Yleisradio Oy (YLE), held a national final to select the Finnish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1992, held in Malmö, Sweden. The contest was held at the Typhon Hall in Turku on 29 February, hosted by Kati Bergman. 10 songs competed, with the winner being decided through two rounds of jury voting, the first to select the top 4 songs, with the second selecting the winner. Pekka Juhani "Pave" Maijanen (3 September 1950 – 16 January 2021) was a Finnish musician, who worked as a singer, songwriter, bass player, keyboard player, drummer, guitarist and producer during his long career. As well as his solo career, Maijanen was a member of The Royals, Rock'n'Roll Band, Pepe & Paradise and he was the keyboard player and producer of Dingo and the Hurriganes. Maijanen's first work as a producer was for the album '' Nuclear Nightclub'' by Wigwam. Career Pave Maijanen was born in Lappeenranta, and became interested in music at the age of 6, when he started playing the harmonica. In the 1960s, he was already playing in several bands, the most famous of which was ''Mielikummitus'', the background band of singer Kristian. Maijanen's music career continued as the bass player of the famous band Pepe & Paradise and as the vocalist of The Royals.
