Filmfare Award South
Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by the Filmfare magazine of The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Indian film industry encompassing four languages, namely, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. They were introduced in 1954, around the films released in 1952-53 and Filmfare Awards initially recognizing the Hindi film industry. In 1964 awards were extended in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi, around the films released in 1963. The inclusion of the Malayalam cinema in the awards came in 1967 while Kannada cinema was recognized in 1970. Each industry is given its own set of creative awards in annual ceremonies that have predominantly been held in Hyderabad and Chennai. Cinema Of South India
The Cinema of South India refers collectively to the six distinct film industries based in Southern region of India namely Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, and Malayalam. Although these industries developed independently for a long period of time, gross exchange of artists and technicians, as well as globalisation helped in shaping this unique identity. By 2010, South India became the home for 6320, or about 62% of the 10,167 movie theatres in India. For the financial year of 2013, the combined net box office revenue of Tamil and Telugu films stood at nearly 40% of the total net revenue of Indian films. Kamal Haasan
Kamal Haasan (born 7 November 1954) is an Indian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, playback singer, television presenter and politician who works mainly in Tamil cinema and has also appeared in some Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada and Bengali language, Bengali films. The Filmfare Best Actor Award is given by the ''Filmfare'' magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards South for Telugu cinema, Telugu films. Uday Kiran
Uday Kiran (26 June 1980 – 5 January 2014) was an Indian actor who primarily worked in Telugu cinema. His first three films, ''Chitram'' (2000), ''Nuvvu Nenu'' (2001), and ''Manasantha Nuvve'' (2001) were successful at the box office, earning him the title "Hat-trick Hero". The three films, all love stories, earned him a 'lover boy' image in the early 2000s. In 2001, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor - Telugu for ''Nuvvu Nenu'', and became the youngest winner in the category. Subsequently, he acted in successful romantic films ''Kalusukovalani'' (2002) and ''Nee Sneham'' (2002). He also starred in the films '' Sreeram'' (2002) and '' Aunanna Kaadanna'' (2005). In 2006, he made his Tamil debut with the film '' Poi'', directed by veteran director K. Balachander. Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film ''Sati Sulochana'' directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. The Cinema of India consists of motion pictures produced in India, which had a large effect on world cinema since the late 20th century.
