Fidan Doğan
Fidan Doğan (17 January 1982 – 9 January 2013) was a Kurdish activist and member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, who worked at the Kurdish information centre in Paris and also represented the Brussels-based Kurdish National Congress in France. Born in Elbistan in southern Turkey, Doğan moved to France when she was young. She grew up in Strasbourg, where she completed her university education. She was engaged in the Kurdistan National Congress and was a women's rights activist. Death She was assassinated in Paris on 9 January 2013, along with Sakine Cansız and Leyla Şöylemez. On 17 January in Diyarbakir tens of thousands of Kurds remembered the three women in a ceremony. Fidan Doğan was buried in her family's village in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş province, Turkey. The funeral, conducted by an Alevi dede, was attended by around 5,000 people, the coffin was wrapped in the flag of the PKK whilst mourners wore white scarves to symbolise peace. The mourn ... Nursel Aydoğan
Nursel Aydoğan (*17 November 1958, Yenişehir, Bursa, Turkey), is a Turkish politician and former MP for Diyarbakır. Early life and education In 1983 she graduated from Hacettepe University department of food engineering. Since then she has worked as a food engineer. She became active in human rights groups and politics and in 2003 was spokeswoman for the Federation of Associations of Families of Detainees and Convicts for Cooperation (TUAD-FED) Three years later she is quoted as the Chairman of TUAD-FED. Josette Durrieu (born 20 March 1937) is a French politician and a member of the Senate of France. She represents the Hautes-Pyrénées department and is a member of the Socialist Party. Abdullah Öcalan
Abdullah Öcalan ( ; ; born 4 April 1949), also known as Apo (short for Abdullah in Turkish and Kurdish for "uncle"), is a political prisoner and founding member of the militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Öcalan was based in Syria from 1979 to 1998. He helped found the PKK in 1978, and led it into the Kurdish–Turkish conflict in 1984. For most of his leadership, he was based in Syria, which provided sanctuary to the PKK until the late 1990s. After being forced to leave Syria, Öcalan was abducted in Nairobi in 1999 by the Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MIT) (with assistance of the USA) and taken to Turkey, where after a trial he was sentenced to death under Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code, which concerns the formation of armed organizations. Osman Baydemir (born 1971 in Diyarbakır) is a Turkish politician, lawyer and human rights activist of Kurdish descent. He was the mayor of his home town of Diyarbakır from 2004 to 2014. He was a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and also the Peoples Democratic Party (HDP).
