Fernando Gómez Colomer (born 11 September 1965), known simply as Fernando, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. His professional career was closely connected to Valencia with which he made his La Liga debut at the age of 18, going on to make a record 556 appearances and score 142 official goals. He worked with the club in directorial capacities following his retirement. Fernando represented Spain at the 1990 World Cup. The Football League First Division was the top division of the Football League in England from 1888 until the end of the 1991–92 season, when its teams broke away to form the Premier League. 1986–87 Segunda División
The 1986–87 Segunda División season saw 18 teams participate in the second flight Spanish league. It was the longest season ever in Spanish football. The league was reduced to 18 teams and had two phases. In the first one all 18 teams played each other twice (home and away). At the end of the first phase, the first twelve teams qualified for promotion groups (Group A1 for teams that finished in an odd position and Group A2 for teams that finished in an even position) and the last six qualified for the relegation group (Group B). In the second phase, teams played only against teams of the same group twice (home and away) and carried their first phase record.
