Fayetteville is a city in Fayette County, Texas. The population was 246 at the 2020 census. History The town is located in an area that was originally granted to Alex Thompson and George Cumberland. Fayetteville's first immigrant settlers were the families headed by John Crier, James Cummins, and James J. Ross, three of the Old Three Hundred. The settlement began at the location of a stagecoach stop on an old road between San Felipe and Bastrop. Even though Fayette County was named after General Lafayette, the Revolutionary War hero, the community was named in 1844 after Fayetteville, North Carolina, for a prominent citizen of the time, who had surveyed the community, named its streets, and donated lots for the Fayetteville Academy and the town's multidenominational Union Church.''Handbook of Texas'' Fayetteville was incorporated in 1882. La Grange ( ) is a city in Fayette County, Texas, United States, near the Colorado River. La Grange is in the center of the Texas-German belt. The population was 4,391 at the 2020 census, and in 2018 the estimated population was 4,632. La Grange is the county seat of Fayette County. Industry is a town in Austin County, Texas, United States, at the junction of State Highway 159 (SH 159) and Farm to Market Road 109 (FM 109). The population was 268 at the 2020 census. Industry was the first permanent German settlement in Texas. Friedrich Ernst, Industry's founder, settled here in 1831 and gained Industry the title "Cradle of German Settlement in Texas" (see German Texan). The community was so named on account of the industrious character of the first settlers. Fayetteville Historic District is located in Fayetteville, Texas. The small town of Fayetteville is in rural south east central Texas midway between Houston and Austin. The oldest extant building in the district was constructed in 1853. The historic district represents most of the development within town boundaries as indicated by street signs, the boundaries have been drawn to exclude some areas in town occupied primarily by construction from after 1958. The area of the district is and includes 345 properties considered historical and largely intact.
