Faubourg Livaudais
Faubourg Livaudais is a name for a neighborhood in Central New Orleans that some people have re-adopted based upon the name of a former plantation that was in the area. The neighborhood is largely residential, and contains mostly modest sized homes. History Faubourg Livaudais was a plantation long before it was a neighborhood located Uptown New Orleans in Louisiana. The wife of Jacques Francois Enoul de Livaudais, Marie Celeste Marigny, sold her plantation to a syndicate of American businessmen. When the property was subdivided by the surveyor of Jefferson Parish, Faubourg Livaudais was the name given to this neighborhood, founded in 1832. In the 1800s, many of the neighborhoods in the Jefferson Parish area were given the first name Faubourg. Faubourgs were sometimes named after the plantations owner’s last name. A plantation complex in the Southern United States is the built environment (or complex) that was common on agricultural plantations in the American South from the 17th into the 20th century. The complex included everything from the main residence down to the pens for livestock. Uptown is a section of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, on the east bank of the Mississippi River, encompassing a number of neighborhoods (including the similarly-named and smaller Uptown area) between the French Quarter and the Jefferson Parish line. "Faubourg" () is an ancient French term historically equivalent to " fore-town" (now often termed suburb or ). The earliest form is , derived from Latin , 'out of', and Vulgar Latin (originally Germanic) , 'town' or 'fortress'. Traditionally, this name was given to an agglomeration forming around a throughway leading outwards from a city gate, and usually took the name of the same thoroughfare within the city.
