Fanny Ayton
Fanny Ayton (1806–1891) was an English soprano known for her operatic performances in London in the late 1820s. Career She was born in Macclesfield. She was taught singing by Manielli at Florence. Her first public appearance, in Italy, was so successfully that John Ebers engaged her for the season of 1827 at the Her Majesty's Theatre, King's Theatre, at a salary of £500. She made her appearances there in two Rossini operas, as Ninetta in ''La gazza ladra'' (3 February) and as Fiorilla in ''Il Turco in Italia''. In the same year she sang at Drury Lane in an English version of ''Il Turco'' and as Rosetta in ''Love in a Village''. She also played in the provinces, and sang in concerts with fair success. In 1829 she sang at the Birmingham Festival in opera with Maria Malibran and Michael Costa (conductor), Michael Costa. Love In A Village
''Love in a Village'' is a ballad opera in three acts that was composed and arranged by Thomas Arne. A pastiche, the work contains 42 musical numbers of which only five were newly composed works by Arne. The other music is made up of 13 pieces borrowed from Arne's earlier stage works, a new overture was by C. F. Abel, and 23 songs by other composers, including Bishop, Boyce, Geminiani, Giordani, and Galuppi, albeit with new texts. Henry Fothergill Chorley (15 December 1808 – 16 February 1872) was an English literary, art and music critic, writer and editor. He was also an author of novels, drama, poetry and lyrics. Johann(es) Simon Mayr (also spelled Majer, Mayer, Maier), also known in Italian as Giovanni Simone Mayr or Simone Mayr (14 June 1763 – 2 December 1845), was a German composer. Sir Michael Andrew Angus Costa (14 February 180829 April 1884) was an Italian-born conductor and composer who achieved success in England. Biography He was born in Naples as Michele Andrea Agniello Costa. He studied in Naples with his father, at the Real Collegio di Musica, and later with Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli. Birmingham Festival
The Birmingham Triennial Musical Festival, in Birmingham, England, founded in 1784, was the longest-running classical music festival of its kind. It last took place in 1912. History The first music festival, over three days in September 1768, was to help raise funds to complete the new General Hospital on Summer Lane. It proved to be very popular and successful, but it took another event in 1778 to achieve the funds required. The hospital opened September 1779.
