FPAI Indian Player Of The Year
The FPAI Indian Player of the Year is an annual award given to an Indian player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in Indian football. The award has been presented since the 2009–10 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the Football Players' Association of India. The first awardee was Sunil Chhetri. Since 2022, the woman counterpart of the awarded is also presented with Anju Tamang being the first awardee of it. Football Players' Association Of India
The Football Players' Association of India or (FPAI) is an association for Indian association footballers. Created in 2006, it aims to "look after the welfare of players and educate and advice them by engaging professionals". It was created by former Indian national team captain Bhaichung Bhutia. In 2007, it got affiliated to FIFPro. History The FPAI was formed on 13 August 2006 as a brainchild of India national football team's then captain Bhaichung Bhutia. He said that the body would "function as the parent body of the players" and added that it would "work with the national and state associations for the game's development" and ensure "fair treatment for footballers". Membership was opened to players, both Indian and foreign. FPAI became an affiliate of FIFPro on 18 November 2009 at the FIFPro Congress in Budapest. AIFF Player Of The Year Awards
The AIFF Player of the Year Awards are the annual football awards presented to the best footballers in India by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The AIFF first announced the award for Men's Player of the Year in 1992; I. M. Vijayan was the inaugural winner. Sunil Chhetri has won the award a record seven times, more than any other player. No winner was announced in 1998 and 1999. It was re-introduced in 2000. The AIFF Women's Player of the Year Award was introduced in 2001. Oinam Bembem Devi was its first recipient. Between 2002 and 2012, no women's award was given out. In 2013, the award was re-introduced and Bembem Devi won it for the second time.
