FC Tulsa is an American professional soccer team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma which competes in the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. History The club was founded as Tulsa Roughnecks FC by Jeff and Dale Hubbard, brothers and co-owners of the Tulsa Drillers minor league baseball franchise. The Hubbards were announced as co-owners and co-chairs on December 18, 2013. Prodigal, LLC., owner of Oklahoma City Energy FC, another USL club, served as a minority owner. On February 26, 2014, it was announced that the team would be known as Tulsa Roughnecks FC, paying homage to the original Roughnecks which played in the original North American Soccer League from 1978 until the league folded in 1984 (and were best known for winning Soccer Bowl '83). FC Tulsa was an American soccer team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. Founded in 2009, the team played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Southeast Division. Matt Watson (footballer, Born 1985)
Matthew Watson (born 1 January 1985) is an English former professional footballer who will join the coaching staff of FC Tulsa in USL Championship on 1 January 2023. Career College Watson grew up in England, but chose to attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the United States. He played two seasons for the UMBC Retrievers in 2004 and 2005. Following the 2005 season, Watson chose to forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility to turn professional. Professional In 2006, Watson signed with Richmond Kickers of the USL Second Division. That season, he played in all twenty-four Kickers games as the team took both the regular season and playoff titles. Richard Ryan (born 6 January 1985) is an Irish former professional footballer who will join the staff of USL Championship club FC Tulsa as an assistant coach on 1 January 2023. He has previously played for Sunderland, Scunthorpe United and Boston United in England; Royal Antwerp in Belgium; Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers in Ireland; Dundee United in Scotland; Ottawa Fury in Canada and Jacksonville Armada and Miami FC in the United States. The Black Gold Derby is an American soccer rivalry between the two USL Championship (USLC) clubs based in Oklahoma: OKC Energy FC and FC Tulsa. The winner of the regular season series is awarded a four-foot wrench. History The Oklahoma City Energy formed in late 2013, and FC Tulsa, previously known as "Tulsa Roughnecks FC", formed in mid-2014. Both clubs began their series ahead of the 2015 USL season.
