Black Gold Derby
The Black Gold Derby is an American soccer rivalry between the two USL Championship (USLC) clubs based in Oklahoma: OKC Energy FC and FC Tulsa. The winner of the regular season series is awarded a four-foot wrench. History The Oklahoma City Energy formed in late 2013, and FC Tulsa, previously known as "Tulsa Roughnecks FC", formed in mid-2014. Both clubs began their series ahead of the 2015 USL season. The Energy's formation came through local businessman, Bob Funk, Jr., who pursued a bid for a club in the USLC (then known as the United Soccer League) in early 2013. Funk was awarded a franchise on July 2, 2013 with an intended launch date in 2014. Ahead of the 2014 season the Energy FC announced an affiliation agreement with Major League Soccer side, Sporting Kansas City. Former Kansas City goalkeeper, Jimmy Nielsen, was named head coach. Tulsa World
The ''Tulsa World'' is the daily newspaper for the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and primary newspaper for the northeastern and eastern portions of Oklahoma. Tulsa World Media Company is part of Lee Enterprises. The new owners announced in January 2020 that a corporate purchase was made of BH Media Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company controlled by Warren Buffett. The printed edition is the second-most circulated newspaper in the state, after ''The Oklahoman''. It was founded in 1905 and locally owned by the Lorton family for almost 100 years until February 2013, when it was sold to BH Media Group. Kyrian Chinazorm Nwabueze (born 11 December 1992) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward. Club career Youth and College Nwabueze played one year of college soccer at El Camino College in 2013, where he scored 19 goals. Professional Nwabueze had spells with USL PDL club Los Angeles Misioneros in 2013 and 2014, while also playing with Armenian side FC Banants in 2014, where he made six appearances and scored one goal in all competitions. Taft Stadium
Taft Stadium is a WPA-built stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is the current home to teams from Northwest Classen High School, John Marshall High School, Classen School of Advanced Studies, Oklahoma Centennial High School, as well as a professional soccer team, Oklahoma City Energy FC. Built in 1934, the stadium closed in 2013 and reopened in 2015 following substantial renovation. As part of the renovation the seating capacity was reduced from approximately 18,000 to approximately 7,500, with the red-stone facade being the only feature left unaltered. A new all-weather track replaced a dirt track which was installed in 1946. In addition to the high school uses for which it was designed, Taft Stadium also briefly hosted professional football games in 1968 as home of the Oklahoma City Plainsmen of the Continental Football League. Gareth David Evans (born 10 January 1987) is a Welsh retired footballer. Evans is currently an assistant coach for OKC Energy FC in the USL Championship. Career England and Wales Evans is a former Newi Cefn Druids player, who made 31 appearances, 25 as substitute, for the club in the Welsh Premier League during the 2003–04 season. He joined Wrexham in 2004 and signed a professional contract in summer 2006, after initially being told that the club could not afford to give him one. Danni König (born 17 December 1986) is a retired Danish professional footballer. Career Born in Tingbjerg, König played as a youth player with Brønshøj BK U-19 team before signing with the Brønshøj BK pro team in 2005. He played with them for four years before being traded to Randers FC in 2009. In April 2010, he signed with Valur before re-signing with Brønshøj BK in August 2010. Brady James Ballew (born July 3, 1992) is a retired American professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. Career Early career A 2010 graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High school and a four-year varsity starter, Ballew helped lead the Tomahawks to their first state appearance since 1985 and a fourth-place finish his junior year. During his senior year he was awarded Seattle Times All-Area and WESCO North MVP and leading goal scorer.
