Eva Menasse
Eva Menasse (born 11 May 1970 in Vienna) is an Austrian author and journalist. She has studied history and German literature. Menasse had a successful career as a journalist, writing for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in Frankfurt and as a correspondent from Prague and Berlin. She left the paper to write her first novel, ''Vienna'', and now lives and works in Berlin as a freelance author. In 2005, she received the Corine Literature Prize. The English translation of her novel ''Vienna'' was shortlisted for the 2007 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in the UK. Menasse was married to the German author Michael Kumpfmüller from 2004 to 2017. Ludwig Börne Prize
The Ludwig Börne Prize (german: Ludwig-Börne-Preis, links=no) is a literary award that is awarded annually by the Frankfurt-based Ludwig-Börne-Stiftung. It is one of the most important of its kind in German-speaking countries. Objective and methods In 1992 the banker and publicist Michael A. Gotthelf established a foundation that annually awards the Ludwig-Börne-Preis to a German-speaking author, acknowledging his or her outstanding performances in the fields of essays, reviews and reportage. Thus, the foundation celebrates the memory of the Frankfurt author, revolutionary democrat and political journalist Ludwig Börne (1786–1837) and his works. A judge is nominated by the foundation board, for the sole responsibility of deciding who will win this award. This judge, moreover, makes a speech in the winner’s honor. Anthea Bell (10 May 1936 – 18 October 2018) was an English translator of literary works, including children's literature, from French, German and Danish. These include '' The Castle'' by Franz Kafka, ''Austerlitz'' by W. G. Sebald, the '' Inkworld'' trilogy by Cornelia Funke and the French ''Asterix'' comics with co-translator Derek Hockridge. Biography Bell was born in Suffolk on 10 May 1936. Villa Massimo, short for Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo ( it, Accademia Tedesca Roma Villa Massimo), is a German cultural institution in Rome, established in 1910 and located in the Villa Massimo. The fellowship of the German Academy in Rome is one of the most important awards granted to distinguished artists for study abroad. Michael Kumpfmüller (born 21 July 1961) is a German writer and former journalist. Biography Kumpfmüller, born in Munich, was raised in Unterschleißheim near Munich. After graduating from high school in Garching bei München, Garching in 1980, he moved to Tübingen. He attended the Leibniz Kolleg for a one-year course in General studies. He studied history and German literature at the University of Tübingen from 1981 to 1984, at the University of Vienna from 1984 to 1986, and at the Free University of Berlin from 1987 to 1990.
