European Show Jumping Championships
The FEI European Show Jumping Championships is the European Championship for the equestrian discipline of show jumping. First held in 1957 in Rotterdam, and on an annual basis, it is held every two years, on the years between Olympic Games and World Equestrian Games. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded in both the individual and, since 1975, team competition. There are also championships held for young riders, juniors, ponies, children and veterans. The most recent edition in 2013 was held as part of a combined FEI European Championship, with dressage and para-dressage. Both David Broome and Paul Schockemöhle have won the individual title three times. The Federal Republic of Germany have won the team title seven times, with Great Britain next on four team wins. International Federation For Equestrian Sports
The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (, FEI) is the international governing body of equestrian sports. The FEI headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. An FEI code of conduct protects the welfare of the horses from physical abuse or doping. On March 2, 2022, in the wake of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FEI banned Russian and Belarusian athletes, horses, and officials from FEI events, and subsequently an FEI Tribunal panel dismissed an appeal by Russia's Federation of Equestrian Sports challenging the ban. Halla (16 May 1945 – 19 May 1979) was a horse ridden by Hans Günter Winkler. She is the only horse ever to win three Olympic Gold medals in the sport of show jumping. She stood . Piero D'Inzeo
Colonel Piero D'Inzeo (4 March 1923 – 13 February 2014) was an Italian show jumping rider, winner of six medals at the Olympic Games, and an officer in the Italian cavalry. He was born in Rome. Biography With his younger brother Raimondo D'Inzeo, also an officer in the military (but of the Carabinieri), in the international arena they have been called the "invincible brothers" of Italian equestrianism. They participated in numerous competitions in Italy and abroad. At the Olympic Games in 1960 in Rome, Raimondo won the gold medal and Piero the silver medal in the Grand Prix jump obstacles. They were the first athletes to compete in eight Olympic games, consistently from 1948-1976. Piero won 2 silver and 4 bronze Olympic medals. He also won the European Championship title in 1959. Fritz Thiedemann
Fritz Thiedemann (; 3 March 1918 – 8 January 2000) was a German equestrian, considered to be one of the greatest show jumpers of his time. Biography Thiedemann was born as the son of a farmer. His riding talents became clear at a young age, but he could not display them internationally until after World War II. During the war, Theidemann commanded a cavalry unit and was captured and interred at a Russian prison camp by war's end. At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Thiedemann won medals in two equestrian disciplines, a feat since unequalled. He placed third in the dressage team event, and won another bronze medal in the individual jumping contest with his favourite horse ''Meteor'', with which he would win all major prizes in his career.
