Europe's Biggest Dance Show
''Europe's Biggest Dance Show'' is an annual multinational dance music simulcast presented by Euroradio and hosted by BBC Radio 1, in collaboration with several European radio stations, all of which are affiliated with Euroradio and owned by public broadcasters which are members of the European Broadcasting Union. Background The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced on 27 September 2019 that it would join radio stations from seven other countries, and a potential audience of 18 million listeners, in hosting a one-off dance music simulcast on 11 October. The first simulcast began at 19:00 BST and ended at 02:00 BST on 12 October, with Annie Mac introducing for BBC Radio 1 in London. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. While there exist attestations of the combination of dance and music in ancient times (for example Ancient Greek vases sometimes show dancers accompanied by musicians), the earliest Western dance music that we can still reproduce with a degree of certainty are old fashioned dances. ''Europe's Biggest Dance Show 2021'' was the fourth iteration of ''Europe's Biggest Dance Show'', a multi-nation dance music simulcast hosted by BBC Radio 1, in collaboration with eight other radio stations from across Europe: 1LIVE, Fritz, NRK mP3, RTÉ 2FM, Studio Brussel, SR P3, YleX, and for the first time, FM4. Background The simulcast started at 18:30 BST on 29 October 2021, but unlike in previous years, where every radio station contributed an hour, every radio station contributed 30 minutes of dance music from their respective country. Broadcasting House
Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC, in Portland Place and Langham Place, London. The first radio broadcast from the building was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience. As part of a major consolidation of the BBC's property portfolio in London, Broadcasting House has been extensively renovated and extended.
