EuroBasket 2011 Qualification
This page describes the qualification procedure for FIBA EuroBasket 2011. Qualified teams Ten teams have secured their places at the EuroBasket 2011 before the qualifications. Seven teams have qualified through the Qualifying Round, five through FIBA Europe expansion of the tournament, and two more team have qualified through the Additional Qualifying Round. EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the FIBA, International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in EuroBasket 1935, 1935. The former Soviet Union men's national basketball team, Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. Rolands Freimanis (born January 21, 1988) is a Latvian professional basketball player for Trefl Sopot of the Polish Basketball League. He plays at the power forward and center positions. Professional career Born in Gulbene, Latvia, Freimanis started his career with ASK Rīga where he played until 2008. For the 2008–09 season he went to BK VEF Rīga. After one season there his contract was bought-out by CB Sevilla as he spent next season playing for their farm-club Qalat Cajasol. Rihards Kuksiks (born July 17, 1988) is a Latvian professional basketball player for Pieno žvaigždės Pasvalys of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). He is also a member of the senior Latvia national basketball team. College career 2007–08 season In his freshman year, Kuksiks appeared in 27 games, and he averaged 5.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He had double-digit scoring in six of the final 12 games of the season, including 15 points in a win at Washington, and 12 points in a big home win vs USC. Energia Areena is a multifunctional indoor arena in the Myyrmäki Sports Park, located in the Myyrmäki district of Vantaa, Finland. The arena gets its name from its largest sponsor, the energy company Vantaan Energia. Events The venue is able to be modified to accommodate corporate, cultural, and concert events, among others, but is best known for its athletic uses. Energia Areena is equipped to host floorball, badminton, volleyball, basketball, handball and futsal practices and games, in addition to gymnastics and cheerleading competitions. Omar-Sharif Cook ( sr, Omar-Šarif Kuk / Омар-Шариф Кук; born January 28, 1982) is an American-Montenegrin professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. Vladimir Dašić (, ; born May 13, 1988) is a Montenegrin professional basketball player for KK Danilovgrad of the Montenegrin League. He is 6'10" (2.08 m) in height and he plays as both a small forward and a power forward. Shawn Christopher Huff (born May 5, 1984) is a Finnish professional basketball player for the Helsinki Seagulls of the Finnish Korisliiga. Huff played college basketball at Valparaiso from 2004–2008.
