The England Handball Association is the governing body for non-International Handball Federation related matters of team handball in England while the British Handball Association has governance over matters relating to the International Handball Federation. It is an Associate member of the European Handball Federation (EHF). Men's competition England Handball provide both league and cup competitions for clubs. League The men's league in England is currently divided into three tiers. The elite tier is the Super 8 in which eight teams from England compete to be the national champion. The second tier is the Championship. This competition is currently divided into North and South. Following an end of season play-off in June, the overall winners are promoted to the Super 8, replacing the team finishing last in the top division. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. West London Eagles Handball Club is a team handball club based in Gunnersbury Park, West London. The club has men's and women's teams in the EHA national Premier Handball League (former men's Super 8 and women's Super 7 league) and development teams in the South East regional divisions. They also have junior boys' and girls' teams competing in the U14, U16, U19 and U21 competitions. Club history West London Eagles Handball Club was founded in 1972 by Bill Holderness, a GB goalkeeper and were originally based in the old South Ruislip Leisure centre. Originally the teams were largely made up of British players but gradually more overseas players joined the club. Thames Handball Club is an amateur handball club founded in 2005 in London, UK. It is affiliated to the England Handball Association and currently runs competitive men’s handball team in Development leagues. The women's team voluntarily withdrew from official competition in 2016/17 and plays in a newly formed Handball Union. History The club started with Junior teams, before getting involved in Senior competitions in 2007, first starting with a women's team, then in 2008 adding a Men's team. Both teams competed in the England Handball League. The women's team in Division 1 and the Men's team in Division II. Coventry Handball Club
Coventry Handball Club was formed in the aftermath of the 2012 Summer Olympics by Paul Cross and Colin Littlewood. The club has teams in men's and women's EHA Super-8, the men's team promoted from the Championship in 2016. The women's team reached the final of the England Handball National Cup in 2015 and 2016, only to lose to London GD and Olympia, respectively. There had in fact previously been a handball club existing with the same name, playing at the same venue in Coventry, but it had disbanded in 1983. Affiliated to the EHA, London GD Handball Club currently has 3 men's and 2 women's competitive handball teams in both the English National and Regional leagues, as well as a Youth Development Programme in place to generate Junior squads. The club which was formerly known as London Great Dane was founded in 1976. Club history London GD Handball Club was previously known as Great Dane Handball Club, and was founded by Anne-Marie Thrysoe and Andrew Ferguson. Oxford University Handball Club
Oxford University Handball Club (OUHaC) was founded and registered as a club at the University of Oxford in 2001, and has since established itself as one of England's most successful clubs. It is a member of the England Handball Association since 2002 and the Association of British Universities Handball Clubs since 2011.
