Electoral District Of Ryde
Ryde is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It includes the suburbs and localities of Denistone, Denistone East, Denistone West, Macquarie Park, Marsfield, Meadowbank, Melrose Park, Ryde, North Ryde, West Ryde; and parts of Eastwood and Epping. It is currently represented by Victor Dominello of the Liberal Party. History Ryde was created originally in 1894 with the abolition of multi-member districts, from part of Central Cumberland and named after and including Ryde. It was abolished in 1904 with the downsizing of the Legislative Assembly after Federation, but recreated in 1913. In 1920, the electoral districts of Ryde, Burwood, Drummoyne, Gordon and Willoughby were combined to create a new incarnation of Ryde, which elected five members by proportional representation. Edward Loxton
Edward James Loxton KC (11 October 1864 – 17 February 1935) was an Australian politician. He was born at Neutral Bay to Thomas Loxton and Lucinda Jane, ''née'' Forster. After attending Sydney Grammar School and the University of Sydney ( BA 1886, MA 1888), he was articled to the solicitors' firm Allen & Allen, qualifying but not seeking admission as a solicitor. In 1891 he married Jane Rosa Marshall, with whom he had five children. He was called to the Bar in 1892 and practised in the Equity Court. In the late 1910s he became active in political campaigns, strongly supporting conscription and 6 o'clock closing times. He was elected in 1920 to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as an independent Nationalist member for Ryde; he joined the Nationalist Party in 1922. Eric Spooner
Eric Sydney Spooner (2 March 1891 – 3 June 1952) was an Australian politician. Early life Spooner was born in the Sydney suburb of Waterloo and educated at Christ Church St Laurence School. At 14 he became a telegraph messenger and studied at night at the University of Sydney to gain a diploma in economics and commerce. He married Mary Berry in December 1919. He established the accounting firm of Hungerford, Spooner & Co in 1922 with his brother Bill, a Liberal cabinet minister from 1949 to 1964. State politics Spooner was elected the seat of Ryde in 1932 and became an honorary minister in the United Australia Party government of Bertram Stevens. He subsequently became Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Local Government. Evan Davies (New South Wales Politician)
Evan Alexander Davies (25 June 1889 – 11 February 1948) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1932, representing the electorate of Ryde. Davies was born in Abertillery in Wales, and migrated to Australia in 1920. He worked as a miner on the Southern coalfields, and served as councillor and vice-president of the Southern Districts Miners' Federation. He subsequently moved to Ryde, where he was active in Labor politics as a member of the party's Gladesville branch and Ryde electorate council. Davies entered state politics at the 1930 election, when he won the Nationalist-held seat of Ryde amidst Labor's major election victory under Jack Lang. Henry McDicken
Henry James McDicken (27 September 1874 – 20 October 1944) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Early years Born, Henry James Argue McDicken in Newcastle, New South Wales, he was the third child of Isabella Agnes Argue, an emigrant from Ireland, and Hugh McDicken, a compositor from India, who had been engaged by Sir Henry Parkes when he founded ''The Empire'' newspaper in 1850. Edward Lloyd Sanders (2 December 1888 – 10 July 1943) was an Australian politician. He was born at Burwood in Sydney to master carrier Edward Ernest Sanders and Jessie Agnes, ''née'' Lloyd. He attended Burwood Public School and Sydney Grammar School before working in his father's business and eventually becoming a customs and shipping agent.
