Electoral District Of Victoria Park
The Electoral district of Victoria Park is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Victoria Park is named for the inner southeastern Perth suburb of Victoria Park which falls within its borders. History Victoria Park was created at the 1929 redistribution, at which five new metropolitan electorates were created to replace former Goldfields seats in Parliament. The seat is considered a safe Labor Party seat, and has been held by the party for all but eight years since its creation. William Read, who won the 1945 by-election and remained in parliament until the 1953 state election, is the only non-Labor candidate to have held the seat. From 1961 to 1986 Victoria Park was held by Ron Davies, who served as Opposition Leader from 1978 until 1981. Hannah Beazley
Hannah Mary Beazley (born 8 July 1979) is an Australian politician. She has been a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2021 state election, representing Victoria Park. Early life and family Beazley is the daughter of Kim Beazley and the granddaughter of Kim Beazley Sr. and Shane Paltridge, all of whom were senior figures in Australian federal politics. Her mother is Mary Ciccarelli. Political career Beazley first contested in the 2013 state election in the electorate of Riverton but was unsuccessful. She then ran in the 2019 federal election in her father's former seat of Swan. She achieved a minor swing but ultimately lost to incumbent Steve Irons. Carlisle is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the town of Victoria Park. History The suburb known as Carlisle today was originally settled as part of a land allocation to early Western Australian settlers after 1829. Bentley, Western Australia
Bentley is a southern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, southeast of Perth's central business district. Its local government areas are the City of Canning and the Town of Victoria Park. Bentley is home to the main campus of Curtin University of Technology and Technology Park. History Prior to European settlement, the area was originally home to the Beeloo Nyungar people, whose territory extended from the Canning River to the Darling Scarp. The Beeloo hunted and fished in land close to the river, which was then forested with jarrah and marri trees, as much of the metropolitan area was at the time. Manning Road, Perth
Manning Road is a road in Perth, Western Australia, linking Albany Highway in Cannington to Kwinana Freeway in Como. It forms the entirety of State Route 26. Manning Road, along with the suburb of Manning, is named after the Manning family, significant landholders in the early years of the Swan River Colony. Henry Lucius Manning purchased land in the vicinity of Mount Henry (near modern-day Salter Point) in 1840, and likely sent his younger brother Charles Alexander Manning to conduct business on behalf of the family, rather than travel to the colony himself. By around 1866, the Manning had a large estate bounded by the Canning River, Henley Street, and Mount Henry. In 1913, the family divided the estate into 27 lots, three of which, near Canning Bridge, became further subdivided into urban lots. Orrong Road
Orrong Road is a major arterial road servicing the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia as well as the south-eastern continuation of the Graham Farmer Freeway. It is a dual carriageway for its entire length, with multiple sets of traffic lights. In addition to servicing the southeastern suburbs of Perth, the road provides a vital connection from the Perth CBD to Perth Airport, the Kewdale Freight Terminal and the Darling Scarp. The Swan River () is a river in the south west of Western Australia. The river runs through the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia's capital and largest city. Hugh David Andrew (14 June 1895 – 1 July 1961) was an Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1953 until his death, representing the seat of Victoria Park. 2006 Victoria Park State By-election
The 2006 Victoria Park state by-election was a by-election held on 11 March 2006 for the Western Australian Legislative Assembly seat of Victoria Park in the inner southeastern suburbs of Perth. Background The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Labor member Dr Geoff Gallop on 16 January 2006. Gallop had represented the area since a by-election on 7 June 1986, and had served as a minister, shadow minister, Opposition Leader (1996–2001) and, finally, as Premier of Western Australia since 2001. Gallop announced his resignation as Premier and from State Parliament effective immediately in order to aid his recovery from depression, and that "in the interests of my health and my family, I've decided to rethink my career."
