Manning Road, Perth
Manning Road is a road in Perth, Western Australia, linking Albany Highway in Cannington to Kwinana Freeway in Como. It forms the entirety of State Route 26. Manning Road, along with the suburb of Manning, is named after the Manning family, significant landholders in the early years of the Swan River Colony. Henry Lucius Manning purchased land in the vicinity of Mount Henry (near modern-day Salter Point) in 1840, and likely sent his younger brother Charles Alexander Manning to conduct business on behalf of the family, rather than travel to the colony himself. By around 1866, the Manning had a large estate bounded by the Canning River, Henley Street, and Mount Henry. In 1913, the family divided the estate into 27 lots, three of which, near Canning Bridge, became further subdivided into urban lots. Manning is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. History The land was originally purchased by Henry Manning in 1856. He was a bachelor and his land in Perth was administered by his brother Charles Alexander Manning, who arrived in the colony in 1854 and subsequently became mayor of Fremantle. The land was left to his brother's descendants. In 1936/37 167 acres was sold by the family to the Christian Brothers for the construction of Aquinas College. The suburb was subdivided in 1948, initially being named The Manning Estate. Eventually Manning became the official name of the area. Mount Henry Peninsula
Mount Henry Peninsula is a land feature and reserve located south of Perth, Western Australia, on the north bank of the Canning River near the Mount Henry Bridge in Salter Point, Western Australia. It covers , and includes both ''Banksia attenuata'' and '' Banksia menziesii'' woodland, and a muddy and desert biome. The peninsula features limestone slopes, shoreline vegetation, wetlands, and contains the most inland vegetated knoll of the Spearwood dunes on the Swan-Canning estuary, as well as a significant variety of natural conditions for birds and other fauna. The Mount Henry Peninisula is a designated Bush Forever Site, number 227. Swan River Colony
The Swan River Colony, also known as the Swan River Settlement, or just Swan River, was a British colony established in 1829 on the Swan River, in Western Australia. This initial settlement place on the Swan River was soon named Perth, and it became the capital city of Western Australia. The name was a ''pars pro toto'' for Western Australia.
