2006 Victoria Park State By-election
The 2006 Victoria Park state by-election was a by-election held on 11 March 2006 for the Western Australian Legislative Assembly seat of Victoria Park in the inner southeastern suburbs of Perth. Background The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Labor member Dr Geoff Gallop on 16 January 2006. Gallop had represented the area since a by-election on 7 June 1986, and had served as a minister, shadow minister, Opposition Leader (1996–2001) and, finally, as Premier of Western Australia since 2001. Gallop announced his resignation as Premier and from State Parliament effective immediately in order to aid his recovery from depression, and that "in the interests of my health and my family, I've decided to rethink my career." Teresa Angela van Lieshout (born 1971) is an Australian conspiracy theorist, perennial candidate, author, and former teacher. She has contested elections between 2004 and 2019. In 2021, she was arrested for allegedly taking part in a plot to overthrow the government. Early life Van Lieshout was born and raised in Mundijong, Western Australia. Diane Elizabeth Margetts (born 5 March 1955), known as Dee Margetts, is a former Australian politician. She was a member of the Australian Senate from 1993 to 1999 and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 2001 to 2005, representing the Greens (WA). Early life Margetts was born in Fremantle and educated locally. The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) was a Christian democratic political party in Australia, founded in 1977, under the name Call to Australia Party, by a group of Christian ministers in New South Wales. The Family First Party was a Conservatism in Australia, conservative political party in Australia which existed from 2002 to 2017. The Speaker of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly is the presiding officer in the Legislative Assembly. The office has existed since the creation of the Legislative Assembly in 1890 under the '' Constitution Act 1889''.
