Electoral District Of Beeloo
Beeloo was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1956 to 1968. Beeloo was named after the Beeloo, a subgroup of the Whadjuk Nyungar people, who inhabited an area that later became the south eastern suburbs of Perth, south of the Swan and east of the Canning, prior to European settlement. Beeloo was considered to be a safe seat for the Labor Party, and only had one member, Colin Jamieson. History Beeloo was initially within the vast electorate of Canning. In 1911, just 50 people voted at the Belmont and Welshpool Road booths, and by 1950, this had grown to 410 at Belmont, 685 at Welshpool and 692 at Queens Park. However, the area grew rapidly following the Second World War as industry developed at Belmont, Kewdale and Forrestfield, and Housing Commission areas were built to support them. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly is elected from 59 single-member electoral districts. These districts are often referred to as ''electorates'' or ''seats''. The ''Electoral Distribution Act 1947'' requires regular review of electoral boundaries, in order to keep the relative size of electorates within certain limits. Electoral boundaries are determined by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. Electoral districts are subdivisions of electoral regions for the Legislative Council and have approximately an equal number of electors. Kewdale, Western Australia
Kewdale is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia within the City of Belmont. Kew Street was one of the first roads in this district, hence the naming of the suburb. Geography Kewdale is bounded by Cloverdale and Perth Airport to the north, Belmont to the east and Welshpool and Carlisle to the south. The suburb is a mixture of residential to the west with commercial and industrial areas to the east. A number of notable parks and reserves can be found in the area including Tomato Lake, Willow Lake Park, Wicca Reserve, Peet and Peachy parks and smaller Cottage and Nance Parks to the east. Transport Kewdale is well serviced by several bus routes including 38, 39, 380 and 284 which offer direct connections to Perth Airport, Elizabeth Quay, Curtin University Bus Station, St Georges Terrace, Victoria Park and Oats Street Station which falls on the Armadale line. Belmont is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. Belmont is named for the inner eastern Perth suburb of Belmont, which falls within its borders. The seat was in its present incarnation considered a safe Labor seat prior to 2013, and was held by former Labor leader Eric Ripper; however, it fell to Liberal Glenys Godfrey in the Liberal landslide at the 2013 state election. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 31 March 1962 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Liberal-Country coalition government, led by Premier Sir David Brand, won a second term in office against the Labor Party, led by Opposition Leader Albert Hawke. The election resulted in a confirmation of the status quo, with the only apparent seat changes since the 1959 election being due to the changes of affiliation of the two Independent Liberal members. Forrestfield is a suburb of the City of Kalamunda in Western Australia. It lies 15 kilometres to the south-east of Perth at the base of the Darling Scarp and the southern border of Perth Airport. The suburb is split by Roe Highway into a southern residential area and a northern industrial area. The suburb is adjacent to Wattle Grove, Cloverdale and Kalamunda.
