El Bosque Open
The El Bosque Open was a professional golf tournament on the European Tour. It was held just once, in 1990, when it replaced the Jersey Open on the tour schedule. Its renewal in 1991 was cancelled due to lack of sponsorship. The tournament was played on the Robert Trent Jones designed course at El Bosque Golf & Country Club, Valencia, Spain from 5–8 April and was won by Vijay Singh of Fiji, who later become the World's Number 1 golfer. Valencia ( va, València) is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and the third-most populated municipality in Spain, with 791,413 inhabitants. Official World Golf Ranking
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. 1990 European Tour
The 1990 European Tour, titled as the 1990 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 19th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 37 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and seven non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Wales' Ian Woosnam for the second time, having previously won in 1987. Changes for 1990 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Atlantic Open, the Amex Med Open and the Austrian Open; and the promotion of the Murphy's Cup to full Order of Merit status. The 1991 European Tour, titled as the 1991 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 20th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was originally made up of 38 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and eight non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Spain's Seve Ballesteros for the sixth time, having previously won in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1986 and 1988. Chris Williams (golfer)
Christopher Gary Williams (born 20 March 1959) is an English-born golfer who currently lives in South Africa. Williams has won seven times on the Sunshine Tour. Professional career Williams was born in Liverpool, England. He moved to Johannesburg, South Africa shortly before turning professional in 1978. He joined the Sunshine Tour in 1985, and won his first title; the Lexington PGA Championship, during his debut season. He has won six more events on the Sunshine Tour since then. Williams joined the European Senior Tour on turning 50, having secured conditional playing rights at the 2008 qualifying school. He won for the first time as a senior in March 2011 at the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters. Richard Boxall
Richard Boxall (born 28 April 1961) is an English professional golfer. Golf career Boxall turned professional in 1982 and won a place on the European Tour at that year's final qualifying school. He played on the Tour until 2000, and won one Tour event, the 1990 Lancia Martini Italian Open. He also had his best finish on the Order of Merit that year, placing seventeenth. He represented England in the Alfred Dunhill Cup and the World Cup of Golf in 1990. During the third round of The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1991, Boxall was just two strokes off the lead when he suffered a stress fracture of his left leg while playing his tee shot on the ninth hole. Robert Trent Jones
Robert Trent Jones Sr. (June 20, 1906 – June 14, 2000) was a British–American golf course architect who designed or re-designed more than 500 golf courses in 45 U.S. states and 35 countries. In reference to this, Jones took pride in saying, "The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones golf course." He is often confused with the famous amateur golfer Bobby Jones with whom he worked from time to time. The Jersey Open was a European Tour golf tournament which was played in Jersey, a British Crown dependency in the English Channel, from 1978 to 1995. It had several different names during this period. The venue was La Moye Golf Club. The winners included three major championship winners, Tony Jacklin, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam. The prize fund peaked at £353,120 in 1994 before falling to £300,000 in the final year, which was below average for a European Tour event at that time.
