Jersey Open
The Jersey Open was a European Tour golf tournament which was played in Jersey, a British Crown dependency in the English Channel, from 1978 to 1995. It had several different names during this period. The venue was La Moye Golf Club. The winners included three major championship winners, Tony Jacklin, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam. The prize fund peaked at £353,120 in 1994 before falling to £300,000 in the final year, which was below average for a European Tour event at that time. Dean Robertson
Dean Robertson (born 11 July 1970) is a Scottish professional golfer. Robertson was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. He attended Midland College in Texas, United States on a golf scholarship. He won several amateur titles in Scotland and represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup before turning professional in 1993. Robertson gained his European Tour card at his second visit to the qualifying school in 1994. He finished in the top hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit every season from 1995 to 2001, before he began to suffer from clinical depression. He came back in 2004 on a medical exemption, and regained his European Tour card for the following season at qualifying school. Christy O'Connor Jnr
Christy O'Connor Jnr (born Christopher O'Connor; 19 August 1948 – 6 January 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He is best known for defeating American Fred Couples at the 1989 Ryder Cup, helping Europe secure the trophy. Early life O'Connor was born in Knocknacarra, Ireland in 1948. Knocknacarra is a village in Salthill that is within County Galway. He was the son of Elizabeth (née Noone) and John O'Connor. The family farmed cattle and pigs near a golf club. 1989 European Tour
The 1989 European Tour, titled as the 1989 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It marked the tour's first visit to Asia, with the inaugural Karl Litten Desert Classic. The season was made up of 33 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and ten non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Northern Ireland's Ronan Rafferty. The season was made up of 37 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and seven non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Wales' Ian Woosnam for the second time, having previously won in 1987. Changes for 1990 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Atlantic Open, the Amex Med Open and the Austrian Open; and the promotion of the Murphy's Cup to full Order of Merit status. Mark Davis (golfer)
Mark Davis (born 4 July 1964) is an English professional golfer. Davis was born in Brentwood, Essex. In 1984, he won the Brabazon Trophy and represented England in the European Youths' Team Championship. He turned professional two years later. Davis finished in the top hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit eight times, with a best of 31st in 1994, and twice won the Austrian Open (1991 and 1994). Chris Moody
Chris Moody (born 19 October 1953) is an English professional golfer. Moody turned professional in 1973 and joined the European Tour in 1979. He made the top one hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit twelve times between 1980 and 1992, with a best ranking of nineteenth in 1988. It was in 1988 that he collected his only European Title at that year's Ebel European Masters Swiss Open. He also had two second places finishes on the tour. Daniel Silva (born 19 June 1966) is a Portuguese professional golfer. Silva was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He turned professional in 1988 and spent the next decade attempting to hold down a place on the European Tour. He was a regular visitor to qualifying school, where he came out with the number one card in 1990. He followed up that success with two solid seasons back to back in 1991 and 1992, which were the only years that he made the top one hundred on the Order of Merit, before being setback by injury. Sam Torrance
Samuel Robert Torrance (born 24 August 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer and sports commentator. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s, with 21 Tour wins. Torrance was a member of European Ryder Cup teams on eight occasions consecutively; on Cup-winning teams four times. He was also part of the winning Scotland team at the 1995 Dunhill Cup.
