''Ever Since Paradise'' is a 1946 comedy play by the British writer J.B. Priestley. It premiered at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield in August 1946. The following June it transferred to the New Theatre in London's West End where it ran for 165 performances. Lyceum Theatre (Sheffield)
The Lyceum is a 1,068-seat theatre in the City of Sheffield, England. History There has been a theatre on the site since 1879 when the Grand Varieties Theatre was built. Made of wood and originally intended to be used as a circus, the theatre was managed by the parents of the music hall comedian Dan Leno in 1883, who regularly performed there in the early stages of his career. Leno's lease came to an end in 1884 and the theatre burnt down in 1893. This was replaced by City Theatre but this was demolished six years later to make way for what is now the Lyceum. Built to a traditional proscenium arch design, the Lyceum is the only surviving theatre outside London designed by the theatre architect W.G.R. Comedy is a genre of dramatic performance having a light or humorous tone that depicts amusing incidents and in which the characters ultimately triumph over adversity. For ancient Greeks and Romans, a comedy was a stage-play with a happy ending. In the Middle Ages, the term expanded to include narrative poems with happy endings and a lighter tone. Jane Carr (born Dorothy Henrietta Brunstrom; 1 August 1909 – 29 September 1957) was the stage name of English stage and film actress Rita Brunstrom. Biography Born in the Northumberland seaside town of Whitley Bay, Carr attended Harrogate Ladies College. Her first husband was James Bickley, a civil engineer, the eldest son of a farmer and wheelwright, born on 4 October 1896 at Wythall, Warwickshire, to whom she was married on 14 September 1931 at the Register Office, Marylebone, London. Joy Shelton
Joy Winstanley Shelton (3 June 1922 – 28 January 2000) was an English actress who performed in films, radio and television. Biography Joy Shelton was born in Marylebone, London, and trained at RADA. She appeared in a number of British films in the 1940s and '50s, including two by Sidney Gilliat including ''Millions Like Us'' (1943), which traced the wartime life of an ordinary London family, and '' Waterloo Road'' (1945), in which she was fought over by John Mills and Stewart Granger. Shelton was a radio personality and played the part of Joan Carr in ''The Adventures of PC 49'' for the BBC. This series ran from 1947 until 1953, totalling 112 episodes. Ursula Jean McMinn (5 May 1906 – 21 April 1973), better known as Ursula Jeans, was an English film, stage, and television actress. Biography Jeans was born in Simla, British India, to English parents, and brought up and educated in London. She was the youngest of three siblings.
