Evan Prodromou
Evan S. Prodromou (born 14 October 1968) is a software developer and open source advocate. His major contributions have been Wikitravel (with Michele Ann Jenkins), Identi.ca, and StatusNet. In 2015, he launched Fuzzy.ai, an artificial intelligence service for developers. Biography Prodromou was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, and grew up in Texas and California. He has lived in Amsterdam, San Francisco, and Lisbon, and currently lives in Montreal. Prodromou graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 1990 (Physics, English), and worked for Microsoft and various Web development companies in the late 1990s. In 2003 he started Wikitravel, and in 2007 founded Control Yourself, which developed the software for Identi.ca, a microblogging service. Control Yourself was renamed to Laconica, StatusNet in 2010, and finally to GNU social in 2012. Free And Open Source Software
Free and open-source software (FOSS) is a term used to refer to groups of software consisting of both free software and open-source software where anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, and change the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that people are encouraged to voluntarily improve the design of the software. This is in contrast to proprietary software, where the software is under restrictive copyright licensing and the source code is usually hidden from the users. FOSS maintains the software user's civil liberty rights (see the Four Essential Freedoms, below). Other benefits of using FOSS can include decreased software costs, increased security and stability (especially in regard to malware), protecting privacy, education, and giving users more control over their own hardware. Heat
In thermodynamics, heat is defined as the form of energy crossing the boundary of a thermodynamic system by virtue of a temperature difference across the boundary. A thermodynamic system does not ''contain'' heat. Nevertheless, the term is also often used to refer to the thermal energy contained in a system as a component of its internal energy and that is reflected in the temperature of the system. For both uses of the term, heat is a form of energy. An example of formal vs. informal usage may be obtained from the right-hand photo, in which the metal bar is "conducting heat" from its hot end to its cold end, but if the metal bar is considered a thermodynamic system, then the energy flowing within the metal bar is called internal energy, not heat. Vinismo
Vinismo.com was a website with the goal of having a free, complete, up-to-date, and reliable guide of all wine regions and producers in the world. It was founded in April, 2007 by Evan Prodromou and launched on July 24, 2007. It used the MediaWiki software platform for management of its content. As of February 2011, Vinismo was no longer working, even though in May 2010 it had 35,000 articles contributed by over 600 authors. The site was organized by Regions, Wineries and Grapes. Its regions were divided into ''Wines of Europe'' (including France, Italy, Germany, Spain) and ''Wines of the New World'' (such as California, Australia, Chile). The Grapes were categorized by ''Reds'' (such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel) and ''Whites'' (e.g. Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc). ActivityPub
ActivityPub is an open, decentralized social networking protocol based on Pump.io's ActivityPump protocol. It provides a client/server API for creating, updating, and deleting content, as well as a federated server-to-server API for delivering notifications and content. Project status ActivityPub is a standard for the Internet in the Social Web Networking Group of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The standard was co-authored by Evan Prodromou, creator of StatusNet (now known as GNU social). At an earlier stage, the name of the protocol was "ActivityPump", but it was felt that ActivityPub better indicated the cross-publishing purpose of the protocol.
