Naiad
In Greek mythology, the naiads (; grc-gre, ναϊάδες, naïádes) are a type of female spirit, or nymph, presiding over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of fresh water. They are distinct from river gods, who embodied rivers, and the very ancient spirits that inhabited the still waters of marshes, ponds and lagoon-lakes such as pre-Mycenaean Lerna in the Argolis. Károly Kerényi
Károly (Carl, Karl) Kerényi ( hu, Kerényi Károly, ; 19 January 1897 – 14 April 1973) was a Hungarian scholar in classical philology and one of the founders of modern studies of Greek mythology. Life Hungary, 1897–1943 Károly Kerényi was born in Temesvár, Austria-Hungary (now Timișoara, Romania) to Hungarian parents of German origin. His father’s family was of Swabian peasant descent. Kerényi learnt German as a foreign language at school, and later chose it as his language for scientific work. He identified himself with the city of Arad, where he attended secondary school, because of its liberal spirits as the city of the 13 martyrs of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/49. He moved on to study classical philology at the University of Budapest where he mostly appreciated the teaching of the Latinist Géza Némethy as well as of the Indo-Germanist Josef Schmidt. Hecuba (play)
''Hecuba'' ( grc, Ἑκάβη, ''Hekabē'') is a tragedy by Euripides, written . It takes place after the Trojan War but before the Greeks have departed Troy (roughly the same time as ''The Trojan Women'', another play by Euripides). The central figure is Hecuba, wife of King Priam, formerly queen of the now-fallen city. It depicts Hecuba's grief over the death of her daughter Polyxena and the revenge she takes for the murder of her youngest son, Polydorus. Plot In the play's opening, the ghost of Polydorus tells how when the war threatened Troy, he was sent to King Polymestor of Thrace for safekeeping, with gifts of gold and jewelry. But when Troy lost the war, Polymestor treacherously murdered Polydorus, and seized the treasure. Sangarius (mythology)
Sangarius (; Ancient Greek: ) is a Phrygian river-god of Greek mythology. Mythology He is described as the son of the Titans Oceanus and his sister-wife Tethys and as the husband of Metope, by whom he became the father of Hecuba. In some accounts, the mother was called the naiad Evagora. Alternatively, Sangarius had a daughter Eunoë who became the mother of Hecabe by King Dymas. He was also the father of Nana and therefore the grandfather of Attis. By Cybele, Sangarius became the father of Nicaea, mother of Telete by Dionysus. His other children were Sagaritis and Ocyrrhoe. In Greek mythology, Dymas ( grc, Δύμας, Dýmas) was a Phrygian king. Mythology The father of Dymas was given as one Eioneus, son of Proteus, by some ancient mythographers. According to Dictys, he was a descendant of Phoenix, son of Agenor, as recounted by Helen to Hecuba to prove their kinship. Dymas' wife was called as Eunoë, a daughter of the river god Sangarius. Hecuba
Hecuba (; also Hecabe; grc, Ἑκάβη, Hekábē, ) was a queen in Greek mythology, the wife of King Priam of Troy during the Trojan War. The ''Bibliotheca'' (Ancient Greek: grc, Βιβλιοθήκη, lit=Library, translit=Bibliothēkē, label=none), also known as the ''Bibliotheca'' of Pseudo-Apollodorus, is a compendium of Greek myths and heroic legends, arranged in three books, generally dated to the first or second century AD.
