Estonian Pavilion
Estonian pavilion houses Estonia's national representation during Venice Biennale arts festivals. Outside of the central, international exhibition, individual nations produce their own shows, known as pavilions, as their national representation. Nations that own their pavilion buildings, such as the 30 housed on the Giardini della Biennale, are responsible for their own upkeep and construction costs as well. Nations without dedicated buildings create pavilions in venues throughout the city. Estonia doesn't have a special building for the pavilion and therefore throughout the years the exhibitions have been located in various places across Venice. In 2019, the Estonian pavilion was located on the island of Giudecca. For the 59th Venice biennale, the Dutch pavilion, historically located at Giardini, offered its pavilion, designed by Gerrit Rietveld, to Estonia. Estonia
Estonia, formally the Republic of Estonia, is a country by the Baltic Sea in Northern Europe. Katja Novitskova
Katja Novitskova (born 1984 in Tallinn, Estonia) is an Estonian installation artist. She lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin. Her work focuses on issues of technology, evolutionary processes, digital imagery and corporate aesthetics. Novitskova is interested in investigating how, "media actively redefines the world and culture, and everything" related to art, nature and commerce. Education Novitskova holds degrees in Semiotics and Cultural Studies as well as a specialization in Media Arts from the University of Tartu, Estonia. She also completed a Masters of Science in Digital Media, University of Lübeck, Germany in addition to studying at the Graphic Design department at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam. Peeter Pere
Peeter Pere (born 15 June 1957 in Tartu) is a notable Estonian architect and artist. From 1975 Peeter Pere studied in the National Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (today's Estonian Academy of Arts) in the department of architecture. He graduated from the institute in 1980. From 1980 to 1993 Peeter Pere worked in the state design bureau Eesti Tööstusprojekt (Estonian Industrial Design). From 1994 he has worked in the architectural bureaus F&P, Muru&Pere and as a freelance architect. Most notable works by Peeter Pere are the library of Pääsküla, recreational center of Haabersti, social housing in Lasnamäe and apartment building in Maarjamäe. Kaido Ole
Kaido Ole (born 23 February 1963) is an Estonian painter. Ole was born in Tallinn. His great-uncle was artist Eduard Ole. In 1992, he graduated from Estonian Academy of Arts. He worked as a painting instructor at the Tallinn Art School from 1992 until 1993. From 2003 until 2010, he taught painting at Estonian Academy of Arts. Since 2010 he is a freelance painter. Marko Mäetamm
Marko Mäetamm (born 13 December 1965, in Viljandi, Estonia) is an Estonian multimedia artist, working within the mediums of video, drawing and the internet. Mäetamm began studying graphic art at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1988 and received his M.A. from the academy in 1996. Mäetamm also studied practicing print technologies at the Swedish Royal Art High School. His professional art career spanning over two decades, Mäetamm emerged as one of the most prominent artists in Estonia upon graduating from Estonian Art Academy. Marko Mäetamm has exhibited internationally since the 1990s and represented Estonia at the 52nd Venice Bienniale in 2007 and in 2003 as a part of artists duo John Smith (with Kaido Ole) in the Estonian pavilion.
