The Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, popularly known as Matute, is a soccer stadium located in the Matute neighborhood of the La Victoria District, Lima, La Victoria district in Lima, Peru. The venue is owned by Alianza Lima, Club Alianza Lima, and it is here that the club plays at home in the Peruvian Liga 1 and in international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores, Conmebol Libertadores or the Copa Sudamericana, Conmebol Sudamericana. The stadium was registered as one of the alternate venues of the Peruvian Soccer Team for the South American qualifiers prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and was also considered as a possible venue for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Alianza Lima
Club Alianza Lima, popularly known as Alianza Lima or simply Alianza, is a Peruvian professional sports club based in La Victoria District of Lima, Peru. It is widely known for having one of the most historical and successful football teams in Peru; they have won a total of twenty-five league titles of the Peruvian Primera División and are currently the oldest team playing in that competition, since the club was founded in 1901. La Victoria is a district in Lima Province, Peru. It is bordered to the north by the district of Lima; to the east by the districts of El Agustino, San Luis and San Borja; to the south by the district of San Isidro; and to the west by the districts of Lince and Lima. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as the Copa Libertadores de América ( pt, Copa Libertadores da América), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The tournament is named after the ''Libertadores'' (Spanish and Portuguese for ''liberators''), the leaders of the Latin American wars of independence, so a literal translation of its former name into English is "''America's Liberators Cup''". The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, named as ''Copa Sudamericana'' (; pt, Copa Sul-Americana ), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 2002. It is the second-most prestigious club competition in South American football. CONCACAF clubs were invited between 2004 and 2008. The CONMEBOL Sudamericana began in 2002, replacing the separate competitions Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur (that had replaced Copa CONMEBOL) by a single competition.
