Eskimo Joe
Eskimo Joe are an Australian alternative rock band that was formed in 1997 by Stuart MacLeod, on lead guitar, Joel Quartermain, on drums and guitar, and Kavyen Temperley, on bass guitar and vocals, in East Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia. The band has released five additional albums since their debut album ''Girl'' was released in 2001: '' A Song Is a City'', released in 2004; '' Black Fingernails, Red Wine'', released in 2006; '' Inshalla'', released in May 2009; '' Ghosts of the Past'', released on 12 August 2011; and ''Wastelands'', released on 20 September 2013. ''Girl'' is the debut studio album by Australian rock band Eskimo Joe, released on 20 August 2001. The album reached number 29 on the Australian (ARIA) Album Charts and was certified gold. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2001, the album was nominated for ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Album. The album features the two heavily played Triple J songs " Wake Up" and " Who Sold Her Out", with the latter reaching number 94 on the ARIA Singles Charts. "Sydney Song" featured on an advertisement for Kit Kat Kit Kat (stylised as KitKat in various countries) is a chocolate-covered wafer bar Confectionery, confection created by Rowntree's of York, England. Stuart Leach
Stuart Leach is a musician from Western Australia. Stuart Leach was originally the drummer in Carpet, a funk band formed by Leach's brother Simon (guitar) and fellow year-12 Hollywood Senior High School student, Joel Quartermain (guitar), in Perth, Western Australia. Simon Leach inviting a friend, Kavyen Temperley (bass, vocals), who he shared a rental house with, to join them. With Temperley on board, the band changed its name to Freud's Pillow, performing around Perth and Fremantle between 1995 and 1998. The band managed to release only one EP, ''Pleasure Puppy'' in August 1997, featuring a collection of songs Temperley had written as a teenager, one of the songs on the EP, "Mr Hoek", was written by Temperley’s friend Stuart MacLeod. The band disbanded in 1997 when Temperley and Quartermain together with MacLeod, won the National Campus Band's Competition as Eskimo Joe. The Bank Holidays
The Bank Holidays were an Australian indie pop band from Perth, which formed in 2003 as Tunnelball by Nat Carson (guitar, piano, vocals), James Crombie (bass guitar, vocals), Wibekke (Bekk) Reczek (guitar, vocals) and Ian (Stafford) Chater (drums). Late in 2007 Chater was replaced by Stuart Leach. They have issued two studio albums, ''As a Film'' (15 October 2007) and ''Sail Becomes a Kite'' (17 July 2010). By late 2012 they had effectively disbanded. Little Birdy
Little Birdy is an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth, Western Australia, in 2002 by singer and guitarist Katy Steele, drummer Matt Chequer, guitarist and keyboardist Simon Leach, and bass guitarist Scott O'Donoghue. They gained public attention when their single "Relapse" gained popularity on alternative radio stations such as Triple J, leading them to be signed by the record label Eleven: A Music Company. They released three studio albums (all three of which entered the top ten in the ARIA charts), two EPs, and ten singles in their original run. Livid (festival)
Livid was an Australian alternative rock music festival held annually from 1989 to 2003. Created by Peter Walsh and Natalie Jeremijenko, the original idea of showcasing both the arts (Natalie) and music (Peter) in the one event was standardised as late as October/early November from 1991 until 2003. While it has never been officially cancelled, no festivals have been held since 2003 and neither the organisers or promoters have announced any intention to restart Livid in the future. Headline artists for the festival's most recent dates included Linkin Park, the White Stripes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs in 2003, Powderfinger and Oasis in 2002, and Butthole Surfers, Billy Bragg and Ash in 2001. National Campus Band Competition
The National Campus Music Competition (previously known as the National Campus Band Competition) is an annual Australian music competition specifically for tertiary students. The comp was created in 1990 by members of the volunteer organisation, ''Australian Association of Campus Activities,'' which later became a part of the Tertiary Access Group (TAG). The first Adelaide Student Band Competition was held in 1983 and the Victorian Student Band Competition was held in 1986, after an observation by Activities Officers on campus, that there were hundreds of student bands with nowhere to play and needed an extra incentive to have a go. The brainchild of a group of Campus Activities Officers was promoted by posters on campus and received a strong response. The competition was such a success that by 1990 it went national. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge subgenre in the United States, and the Britpop and shoegaze subgenres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. An extended play (EP) is a Sound recording and reproduction, musical recording that contains more tracks than a Single (music), single but fewer than an album.
