Erik Van Rooyen
Erik van Rooyen (born 21 February 1990) is a South African professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He won the 2019 Scandinavian Invitation on the European Tour, and the 2021 Barracuda Championship on the PGA Tour. Amateur career Van Rooyen attended the University of Minnesota from 2009, turning professional in 2013. Professional career Van Rooyen has played on the Sunshine Tour since turning professional. In early 2017, he had his first win on the tour, the Eye of Africa PGA Championship, making a birdie at the first extra hole in a three-man playoff. He played on the 2017 Challenge Tour where he had his second professional win, the Hainan Open. Bellville, Western Cape
Bellville is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated adjacent to the Koelberg Mountains and also the University of Western Cape where it has its own campus. Established It was founded as "12 Mile Post" (Afrikaans: "12-Myl-Pos") because it is located 12 miles (20 km) from Cape Town city centre. It was first known as "Hardekraaltjie". 2018 European Tour
The 2018 European Tour is the 47th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 10th edition of the Race to Dubai. The Race to Dubai was won by Italian Francesco Molinari, who was also named Golfer of the Year. India's Shubhankar Sharma was named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Changes for 2018 There were changes to membership criteria with the reversal of some of the changes introduced for the 2017 season; the number of players gaining exemption from the final Race to Dubai standings reverted to the top 110 and the Access List was scrapped, largely replaced by a re-ranking system. Official World Golf Ranking
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. WGC-Mexico Championship
The WGC Championship was a professional golf tournament that was held between 1999 and 2021. It was one of the three or four annual World Golf Championships until the number of WGC events was reduced to two following the 2021 season. Under sponsorship agreements, the WGC Championship was titled as the WGC-American Express Championship (1999–2006), when it was hosted at various locations in Europe and the United States; the WGC-CA Championship (2007–2010), then the WGC-Cadillac Championship (2011–2016), when it was hosted at Doral Golf Resort, Florida; and the WGC-Mexico Championship (2017–2020), when it was played at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico. Hills Golf Club
Hills Golf Club is a golf club located in Mölndal near Gothenburg, Sweden. It hosted the Nordea Masters in August 2018, a European Tour event. History Situated ten kilometers south of central Gothenburg, the 18-hole course, designed by Arthur Hills, opened in 2004. At a cost of SEK 175 million it is one of the most ambitions golf projects in the Gothenburg Metropolitan Area, only rivaled by Vallda Golf & Country Club, opened in 2009. A victim of the European debt crisis, in 2012 a consortium fronted by former European Tour player Johan Edfors from nearby Varberg bought the club. Scandinavian Masters
The Scandinavian Masters is an annual golf tournament on the European Tour played in Sweden. In 2020 the tournament became co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour and rebranded as the Scandinavian Mixed, in which both male and female golfers compete. History The tournament had its origins in the Volvo Open and the Scandinavian Enterprise Open, which, in 1973, became the first Swedish stop on the European Tour schedule. In 1991, the SEO merged with the PLM Open, with the resultant tournament being called the Scandinavian Masters. Hassan II Golf Trophy
The Hassan II Golf Trophy is a golf tournament in Morocco hosted by Prince Moulay Rachid. The tournament was founded by, and is now named for, his father, Hassan II, who served as King of Morocco. The tournament was originally staged as an invitational pro-am and attended by only a handful of top professionals. The winner receives a gold dagger inlaid with jewels. It has been held at the Robert Trent Jones designed Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat every year except for 2011 through 2015, when it moved to Golf du Palais Royal in Agadir. The Qatar Masters was a European Tour golf tournament held at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar. When founded in 1998, it was one of two European Tour events to be staged in the Arabian Peninsula, but was at one point, one of six. Dubai Duty Free Irish Open
The Irish Open (currently known as the Horizon Irish Open for sponsorship reasons) () is a professional golf tournament on the European Tour. The Irish Open was first played in 1927 and was played annually, except for the war years, until 1950. There was a tournament in 1953, but the event was then not played again until revived in 1975. It has been contested annually since then. 2018 Open Championship
The 2018 Open Championship was the 147th Open Championship, and was held from 19–22 July 2018 at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. It was the eighth Open Championship to be played at Carnoustie. Playing conditions were unusual as a result of the heatwave in Scotland which had produced brown, dry and sun-baked fairways and brown rough. The fairways played quickly, enabling several players to hit drives that covered over 400 yards. Francesco Molinari posted a bogey-free final round of 69 to win his first major championship. Molinari finished two shots ahead of Kevin Kisner, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele. He became the first Italian player to win a major.
