Erick M. Carreira
Erick M. Carreira is a Cuban-born American organic chemist and professor at ETH Zürich. He is known for his research group's work in total synthesis projects, particularly asymmetric synthesis of complex natural products. He became the editor-in-chief of the '' Journal of the American Chemical Society'' in 2021. Early life and education Carreira was born in 1963 in Havana, Cuba. He received his B.S. in 1984 from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he worked with Scott E. Denmark. He then began graduate work at Harvard University as a student of David A. Evans and received his Ph.D. in 1990. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology with Peter Dervan until he joined the faculty there in 1992. Ryoji Noyori Prize
The Ryoji Noyori Prize was established by the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan in 2002 to commemorate Ryōji Noyori winning the 101st Nobel Prize in Chemistry as well as the 60th anniversary of the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Peter Stang
Peter John Stang (born November 17, 1941) is a German American chemist and Distinguished Professor of chemistry at the University of Utah. He was the editor-in-chief of the ''Journal of the American Chemical Society'' from 2002 to 2020. Biography Peter Stang was born in Nuremberg, Germany to a German mother and Hungarian father. He lived in Hungary for most of his adolescence. In school, he took rigorous mathematics and science courses. At home, he made black gunpowder from ingredients at the drugstore, and developed a pH indicator from the juice of red cabbage that his mother cooked, and sold to his "fellow chemists".
